Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

I am painfully waiting to get my acceptance letter, jk, I feel pretty good and wish all the best.

Yeah my essays are like @bommer common app about myself and USC supp. about SC , but I do have plenty to talk about so yeah Fight On

Hi guys!

I’m currently a freshman planning on transferring from a private institution to USC for Fall 2014.

So far I have completed 15 transferrable credits during the fall semester, and will be taking 15 more in the spring. In total I will have 30 transferrable credits by the end of the school year, but will only have 15 when I submit my application. Will this make a huge impact for AO looking at my HS grades/SAT Scores? Also, since I am coming from a private university WRIT 130 is waived for my transfer application but I have to take it if admitted to USC- right? That is what the AO told me and I wanted to be 100% sure if everyone else from a private school heard the same thing.

Thank you! But best of luck to everyone submitting an application :slight_smile:

Is it recommended to apply as a transfer with 58 transferable units? I want originally going to apply to the SCA but I do not have the supplemental materials completed. I want to apply into Marshall but I only have Precalculus completed in my local college. It seems that I won’t be competitive in any of the programs that I want to apply to so I’m thinking of applying as undeclared. Is this a good option for me? I need some input. Thanks.

@glamiex

You can always apply as Marshall as first choice, and then Undeclared as your second.

Has anyone logged into their usc connect accounts yet?

Hi, all!
I submitted my application last week! I’m currently a sophomore at a California CC, Dornsife applicant. Any other Political Science/International Relations people out there? What are your stats? How are you dealing with this crazy and painful process?!
Good luck to all!

@hhtransfer Logged in for the first time tonight, it wouldn’t give me a password before today.

Hi I wrote my essay specific to USC as that was the only school I was applying to and I let them know. There was no way for me to write a generic transfer essay, it wouldn’t make sense. Everything I did from the summer after graduating from high school through my year at cc was to get in to USC. For me, it worked and I am totally enjoying an awesome year as a sophomore at USC. Fight On!

Hello. Can anybody help me? What do you put on Current Year Courses under the education section on the Common App? Thanks in advance.

@andy

You put your spring semester courses in Current year Courses. You also put your winter courses if they weren’t on the college transcript you sent it

@hepburn95

when did you submit your app?

Hi guys! I’m in urgent need of help!!! How did you guys send official HS transcripts to USC? I have my “OFFICIAL” HS transcripts as PDF’s so can I just email them to the USC Admissions? (my high schools gave me PDF versions of official transcripts for future use, so I have them as PDF’s but I don’t have physical copies) Is this acceptable? I sent an inquiry email to USC more than a week ago but I still haven’t received a reply… Should the official HS transcripts be sent directly from the high schools? I appreciate your advice and thanks a lot in advance!!!

How can we confirm that all the materials such as transcripts and recommendation letters have been received by USC? Should we call the USC admissions office?

@esai23 Are you from a 4-year institution? According to this website(which contains many helpful info for transfer students):http://admissionblog.usc.edu/2014/01/16/transferring-into-usc-here-is-everything-you-ever-need-to-know/</a>,
it says that they have a rather flexible policy on writing requirement for transfer students from 4-year colleges because different schools have different GE requirement. They can waive our writing courses during admission process. And my conselor told me that it’s totally possible to complete our writing assignment after enrollment at USC. So I won’t worry about that for now, I just settled my schedule for this semester:)

@Despairtransfer My school luckily ran through Parchment.com, so I was able to directly send my transcript to USC for download. My apologies if this isn’t of any help to you, and if you need to, you should call them directly.

@fayano If you submitted your App, you should have gotten some info to log into the USConnect portal. Here, you will be able to check the status of all necessary materials. I’m having to check everyday because while I put in a request for my CC to directly mail my transcripts to USC on two different dates (one before Winter Break, one after), USC still hasn’t received it… Really bringing it down to the wire, and I tried not to make it this way. Oh well

@andy1l17
What is the section on com app that asks your course info? I’ve done com app but couldn’t find anywhere that allows me to put the classes I’ve taken/planning to take:(

@Clordia Under the education section under “Current Year Courses”

@Coolkid094 Are you sure Fal 2013 is not under Current Year Courses? Why does it mention “Second Semester” or “First Semester?” So for Spring, we would mark “Second Semester?”

@Trojfan131 I submitted my application last night and after googling “USCconnect portal,” I can’t get to the log in page for some reason. Maybe the website is down right now. But did they email you the information on how to log in? Is there maybe a link that you can provide for get me there? Thanks!

@Coolkid094 January 24

@Despairtransfer I don’t think that format is acceptable because they need to have your high school’s “seal” or “stamp” on it. Luckily I live close to my high school so I personally went in and asked the front desk to send them (I brought readdressed and stamped envelopes). If you don’t live near your high school anymore, I’m sure you could email them and have them send it. They will just want to addresses of your schools. Let me know if you have other questions!

@fayano I submitted my app last Friday and couldn’t log in to Connect until yesterday. I think it takes a few days for them to process everything and allow you access. I wouldn’t be too concerned. Maybe wait until the end of the week and if it still doesn’t work, give Admissions a call!

@andy1l17 It gives the “First Semester” option because some people submit their applications before their first semester is over. Since you are in your second semester and are able to show them your first semester classes via transcript, you just need to list the classes you are currently taking.
