Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Wow, this is an active thread!

Any other political science transfers in here?

Also, is anyone else having a MAJOR delay with transcripts

I sent my high school and college transcripts nearly a month ago and they still have yet to be processed… it’s stressing me out.

Also, my CSS profile has been processed but not my FAFSA.

Anyone else having issues like this?

@randombookie February 10th

Actually you’re wrong xsayax - Feb. 10th is the FA deadline for new students.

March 3rd is the FA deadline for transfer students:

http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates1/transfers.html</a></p>

@randombookie March 3rd is the deadline for CSS and FAFSA

@transferr2014 Political Science here! Hopefully we will be taking classes together in the fall! I’m also a little concerned with my transcript delay. I sent my HS transcripts just a couple days before I sent my college (both USPS) and the HS has been processed since the day I logged into connect, but still nothing with the college ones. But @Trojfan13 said he sent his in a month before they were finally processed, so that put me at ease.

I will receive my transcripts by Tuesday but I live in Los Angeles, Can I hand them in instead of mailing them? Seems kind of pointless to mail something 10 miles away and I want to be sure that they receive it as fast as possible

@esai23 Oh ok sorry! I know that Fafsa is in March for transfer students, but I only saw Feb 10th for the CSS so I assumed it was then.

I have been looking into transferring to USC, but I’m only on my second semester of Community College. Considering that I have my GED and no SAT scores I don’t see any way of getting in for Fall 2014. So far I have a 4.0, but I’m behind on math. I won’t be able to take Calculus until this fall either, which probably doesn’t look good because I’m into Computer Science (maybe even dual majoring to get a taste of something else, and so i’m not taking a full schedule of high load classes my entire time). If I keep good grades and finish Calc II I think I would have a chance for Fall 2015.

Did any of you guys kind of start from the bottom? I even though of transferring from my little CC to some other nearby Uni (like UMSL), but I don’t know if that would look bad when my ultimate goal is to transfer to a “good” school after two years elsewhere.

@xsayax - That’s okay. CSS is due on March 3rd as well.

Hey guys, there are no actually essays submit? It’s just those 250 word limit writing supplements to submit? Thank you

i dont have the registrar and academic evaluator filled bc i read that it was not required… however common app won’t let me submit this app… what do i do?

@magico - I remember there was a personal essay in the common app but if my memory serves me correctly it was 650 words limit

Yes, there was the two 250 word limit writing supplements, plus the common app’s “why do you want to transfer?” essay which is 650 words. And then any other essays are for specific school’s supplements.

Under ‘Education’, they ask what current year courses are. Are they asking for courses for this Spring semester classes I’ll be taking? And since Spring is a Second Semester, do I put Second Semester? Thanks guys

@saltedcashews - I ran into the same issue at my community college where I had no idea what to put for ‘Registrar’ or ‘Academic Evaluator.’ After numerous attempts at contacting the Admissions dept. at USC and also web research, you are right. This is not REQUIRED for transfer students (Registrar/Academic Evaluator)

However what they DID tell me was that you have to ask someone at your school (a counselor, professor, etc) for permission and assistance with this. Ultimately you would fill in their name + email address in order to let you complete and submit your app. Again, this is information from at least 3 different USC sources. But I am also sure that each HS or CC is different because I was able to get the “registrar” info from my CC.

@saltedcashews I believe for the registrar you can also just put your schools name in the name box. For academic evaluator, did you have anyone write you letters of recommendation? You can put their information in there as well.
I went to my school counselor at my CC and she went and found out who is in charge of the registrar at my school for me, because the actual registrar was no help because they didn’t know how to deal with the common app.

@asd Yeah, just put in the current spring courses you are taking now. And yes it is 2nd semester.

The deadline is a few hours away and I am still writing the supp essay for SCA. Guess I won’t submit until the very last minute.:P

Hello everyone. Just to clarify, the App is due at 11:59 PM Midnight Pacific Time right?

Does USC generally give good financial aid even for transfers? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Also, does anyone know roughly the competitiveness of the transfer merit scholarships?

@Harren I have heard that you can take it directly to them, I don’t think it will be a problem.

@andy1l17 I think it might be 11:59 PM your time.

@NCXfer I have heard generally good things about their financial aid for transfers, with the exception of just a couple people.

@hepburn95 I’m guessing the best FA goes to the better students also, right?
