Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@KJEMCHEN I have never heard of it happening.

@kyrakyrayu919 A 3.58 for Dornsife is pretty good, but they will focus primarily on your HS stats. What was your HS GPA?

@hepburn95

So should I switch to:

1st choice Dornsife Econ
2nd choice Undecided

???

Or should I just do

1st choice Dornsife Econ
2nd choice Marshall?

@TonyStark93 If you went with option 1, it is not beneficial because if you were not admitted to Dornsife for Econ, they are not going to let you into to Dornsife for Undecided.

If you went with option 2, it is also not beneficial because if you were not admitted to Dornsife, you are not likely to get into Marshall.

I think your best option would be to put Marshall as your #1, and then if they don’t let you into that, they will consider you for Dornsife (which is easier to get into).

@TonyStark93. No point in applying to Marshall as a 2nd choice because I doubt Econ is more competitive

@TonyStark93 Exactly what @bomerr said. You put your more difficult option as your first choice, and the easier as your second.

I sent my transcripts around 3 weeks ago ( before I submitted my app a week later) but my application status still says waiting for college transcripts. Is the postmark date the one that counts or does the transcript have to be received and processed by USC by the deadline?

@ccstudentIL Yeah, it’s according to the postmark date, but they still accept forms after the deadline anyways, so don’t worry. They also just extended the deadline to Feb 18th anyways :)

@xsayax I totally forgot how that would effect our supplements getting there! That’s great!

@sxayax where did you see that it got extended? btw thanks for the reply

@ccstudentIL it says so on the common app, in place of where it used to say 2/1/2014, it now says 2/18/2014

Applying for Junior year into Marshall from a top 20 school. (2180 SAT, 3.5ish UW GPA from an uber competitive private school)
College GPA: 3.4 (4.0 last semester)
Great Recs, very good essays, very good internship

Do you think the top 20 school/upward trend will offset the lowish GPA?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone had their FAFSA stuff processed through USC? My CSS form is through, and although on the FAFSA site it says all schools should have my info, USC still has yet to receive it. I’m hoping it’s following the same script as the transcripts, where it just takes a long time to process through…

@MDog795 USC takes into consideration that university classes (especially ranked) are harder than CC classes. They also value upward trends. I cannot say for sure, because Marshall is extremely competitive, but those aspects definitely help your case. Good luck!

I submitted my app on Feb 1st but it says I submitted it the 2nd…I know that the deadline was extended (pretty upset about that) but do you guys know why it says I submitted it on the 2nd even though I did it on the 1st? I submitted it about 8:54 pm PST so even if it was EST it still wouldn’t be the next day. I know this is nothing to worry about now that the deadline is extended but if it wasn’t would I have been considered a late applicant?

@Spiffyb0i I don’t even think they would have taken the app if it was “late,” so I wouldn’t be concerned about that. It may have just taken longer to process.

Update: Just checked USConnect and both my transcripts and LOR’s have been processed. I sent my transcripts on Jan 21 and my LOR’s about a week and a half ago, just to give y’all some timing perspective. I also live about an hour away from LA.

@hepburn95
How long did it take them to give you USConnect account after you submitted your application? Thanks:)

@Clordia I submitted my app on a Friday and I believe I got access the next Tuesday.

I submitted my application on the 1st at like 12:30am (so like Friday night basically) and just got mine today. So the same as hepburn (Friday/Tuesday).

Does anyone else here have an interview required for their major?

@xsayax No, but I wish I did! What majors require interviews?
