I’m applying as a communication major. how much do you think Annenberg weighs in the essays when making their decisions? i have 42 credits and 14 in the process I’ve taken basically every class needed to transfer, but my GPA is a 3.64 and I’m nervous.
Do you guys think I have a chance for USC PRICE with a 3.53 and about 36 credits? I sadly messed up on a final for a 4 unite class I could have gotten an A in and I’ve been so worried ever since. I’m ready to try again next year if they don’t take me this year, but just thinking about it freaks me out so much! I’ve done/am in the process of fulfilling all the GEs except GE V if that helps
Hey what’s up everyone! Could someone let me know on what my chances are getting into USC. I am attending a California CC, Santa Monica College to be specific. By the time I finish my spring 2015 semester before fall 2015 I will have finished all the general ed requirements for USC. Right now my GPA is 3.88. I am a political science major. I am a full time student however I am also working part time in the family business. As far as my other activities go, I am part of the desi (Indian) club at my school, over the summer of 2014 I did an internship in India, I wrote a petition on the White House website however did not get enough signatures, and I have done some community service in my local Hindu temple. However I have a W in one of my classes during my first semester of college.This was a class I did not need for my major. How are my chances guys? I really want to get into USC!
@summertime123 You and I have the same major and almost the exact same stats! I have a 3.65 GPA and I’ll have like 42 or 43 units done by the end of the semester! Cool. Nice to see another comm major on here.
I know a lot of people say that the essays don’t matter all that much when you’re applying as a transfer (unless you’re trying to get into SCA), but I honestly think that Annenberg puts more weight into your essays than a school like Marshall or Dornsife would. Annenberg allegedly has around a 10% acceptance rate. I’ve seen people with a 3.2 GPA get in and people with a 3.9 rejected, so you would think that they’re basing it on more than just GPA…? I believe that Annenberg especially is very concerned with how you present yourself and how good of a storyteller/communicator you can be, which they aren’t going to gather from your GPA. Since almost everyone that goes there probably intends to work in the media in some capacity, how you present yourself is crucial.
Maybe that’s just my own naivete though!
@desiboy24 I’d say you have a pretty good shot. A really great shot, actually. As far as the W goes, USC lets it slide if you only have one. There’s a section in the Common App where you can elaborate on anything that was reflected in your application, so if it bothers you, you could always fill out that section and mention why you got the W. I don’t think it’s necessary to though as plenty of people have been accepted with one. Don’t stress.
Can someone look at my chances?

@maleficent95 I’m so nervous I feel like I’m overthinking my essay and the supplemental question WAY to much!
I have a question about Annenberg:
Is there a place to specify if we want PR, Comm, etc. and what area we want to focus on?
Is there a way to do one of the areas of focus for a communications major as a PR major?
@summertime123 I know it’s a cliche reply, but try not to over think things! There’s a good chance your essays will end up a muddled mess if you spend too much time thinking about every infinitesimal detail. They won’t come off as an authentic representation of YOU.
I had all my transcripts sent out last week so they would get there by Feb 1, on Thursday I got a notification from a community college that USC has received one of my transcripts. Is this okay even though I haven’t submited my application yet?
@desiboy24
accepted
@db1394
spring grade request - borderline.
USC is mostly stats driven for transfer. If you have over the average transfer GPA of ~3.7 then there is a high chance you will be accepted.
@maleficent95
@summertime123
USC doesn’t care about essays for transfers; It’s all about that GPA. Just don’t say anything that makes you look dangerous or unethical and work on padding your GPA.
I know people like telling a “story” in their essays, but the questions are relatively specific… which I prefer anyway. I’ll answer the questions and relate them to myself and everything, but I’m not going to make up a story like choosing my major based on a fortune cookie… I’m sure that the admissions people have read the same exaggerated stories thousands of times… Edit: The point being, if you have a story make sure it’s sincere.
@UCPhysics I was wondering the same thing, which is why I decided not to send my transcripts yet. I don’t know if they need a file for the student first, or what. I have read that they actually upload stuff to a profile or something… so maybe they will set it aside until you submit the application, I don’t know. They have probably dealt with this a lot though, so you probably shouldn’t worry.
@UCPhysics I’ve sent in my high school transcripts at least two months before I submitted my common application, and they’ve notified me that they received my HS transcript after I’ve submitted the application. I think they will hold your transcripts in a “file of unfiled documents” (if that makes sense), then sort through those files occasionally to attach documents to applications.
Does anyone know if there are scholarships for transfer students?
I have the same question as Aubrey. Does anyone know the general financial aid package for someone with an EFC of around 7-10k? Will appreciate any information.
Do we have the day of February 1 to submit the application or is it due before February 1?
@poisonx I believe you can submit it the day of.
Hey everyone!
I am applying to USC at sophomore standing with a major in political science for fall 2015 with about 30-32 units. I am currently attending a community college, and have completed 14 units. I have a 4.0 GPA. I will have 32 units by the end of spring semester. I have been and still am working as a volunteer at a medical company as an extra-curricular. I organize events and projects, such as toy drives. I had a 3.3-3.4 GPA in high school. However, I did very poorly on my ACT. What do you guys think my chances are of getting accepted? Please tell me your honest opinion!
