Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

I recently got a degree from a community college. Now I am just taking business calc so I can apply to Marshall. So in other words, I am not in college to earn a degree. On the application it asks “Do you expect to earn a degree prior to enrolling at the college to which you are applying?” Since I already earned a degree and I am basically just taking one class to apply to Marshall, do I choose NO?

Hey guys, everyone seems to be asking so I’m gonna hop on this bandwagon.
I’m applying to Marshall with a 3.68 (weird first semester of college but I’ve gotten 4.0 every semester since), have completed 51 semester units, and I’m taking 15 more units this semester. I’m also done with all the core classes, finished the major requirements, and now I’m just taking accounting1b/econ1b, another accounting class, and spanish this semester. I have a really good letter of rec from my accounting 1a professor too. For EC’s I was president of the chamber singers in hs, was in the chamber singers during college, was in my school’s AGS Honor Society, and logged 180 hours of community service for the colburn school (90 hours/summer).
Thanks in advance guys!

Do I have a better chance at getting into PPD, Economics, or Marshall with a 3.5 GPA???

PPD.

Can we send high school transcripts after the deadline?

you’d probably have better chances as an econ major

and yeah, I asked the dude at the transfer session and he said that they can arrive after feb 1 since they dont really start reviewing transfer apps til march.

@MichelleSafarian‌ you have a pretty good chance of getting in. how many of the core classes have you completed?

@bomerr‌ what do you think of my chances? you seem to know a lot ahahaha

What are my chances of getting into USC?

CC transfer student from SoCal
Transferring in as Junior
First choice major: Economics B.A.
second choice major: international business relations in global economy
GPA currently: 3.4
transferable credits completed: 44 units
EC: honors program, PTK, honors outreach, business club, currently have two student jobs, and a marathon runner
Recommendations: 3 ( 1 Econ Professor, 1 Cal professor, and Stats professor)
Essays: pretty strong, worked my ass off writing them, and my acdemic counselor loved them
General essay for transferring pretty generic, the other two essays very strong about my passion for my major and wrote about my marathon experience two months ago
Not sure if this a bonus but my mom is an employee at USC for more than 30 years, and my Older brother is a USC Alumni

well I’m hoping to get a spring request and hopefully have a 3.7 GPA once I transfer, Im currently taking one 3 unit winter inter session course and 13 units in the Spring semester, in total should be 61 transferable units completed

@CCtransferSC‌ Normally, with your GPA and the major you’re applying for, I would say that you have a very slim shot. Your ECs are pretty basic as well. Plentyyyyy of kids are in honors programs and PTK. However, it really does work in your favor that you have family associated with USC. I knew a kid in high school whose dad worked in an office position there. The kid I knew got in with like a 3.3 GPA and his brother transferred in a year later with a 3.4. You really gotta milk those connections! I can see you potentially getting a SGR.

What are my chances of getting in?
Transferring from a CCC as a junior.
First choice major: electrical engineering
Second choice major: mechanical engineering
Current GPA: 3.95
Course work completed: calc 1-3, linear algebra, and differential equations. the physics series, Two English classes both of which satisfy the English requirement, chem 1 and 2, speech, health and PE courses.
Will have a total of 74 units by the end of this spring.
EC: MESA and that’s about it. (I work part time to pay house bills and help out with the rent.) I feel as though I’ll be at a disadvantage for lacking EC’s.
Essays: Good.
I did poorly in high school so that’s why I’m at a community college. Gang violence has affected me throughout my high school years but I managed to turn my life around. I considered writing about my story for the “why I wanna transfer essay” but I don’t want it to sound like a sob story. What do you guys think? Should I just leave it out?

I’ve completed the diversity requirement, will have 2 semesters of foreign language end of spring semester, categories 1 & 2. I’m working with the transfer planning guide only. All the courses on there will be completed by the end of spring semester, except for political science 2.

Do we have to send in our high school transcript or not? I am a junior in CC right now.

@TonyStark93 Yes you have to send it in regardless of the amount of credits you have completed.

I had to send in a high school transcript last year as well when I applied. I told them that I had absolutely no completed courses in high school, so it was essentially (well literally) a blank piece of paper, so I would guess that they need something from high school =\

I submitted my application on wednesday, but still didn’t get any confirmation from usc/can’t see it on the portal. How long does it usually take to show up?

I also have 1 last question.

I went to 5 different community colleges and 1 CSU.

But on the USC application, I can only put 3-4 schools for the part where it says “OTHER COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES”

Is it okay if I put the most recent schools? And should I still send in every single transcript from every school? that’s what I plan to do.

Hey Tony, I had the same problem last year. I’ve attended tons of community colleges in the LACCD district, so I just put the recent ones and/or ones where I had the most units. I sent in transcripts from everywhere and it appeared to be fine as I did wind up with an SGR. I think you’ll be good as long as you send in everything.

Would it look bad if i only wrote 165 words for the USC supplement instead of 250? I wrote exactly 250 for the first one, but left the second one at 165.
