I’m a legacy and I got accepted three years ago but I didn’t attend… I wonder if that matters? what do you guys think?
Im hoping to get accepted into the Cognitive Science program but my second is psych. I went abroad for three years to Africa and the eastern leeward island of the caribbean to promote mental health awareness and acted as an advocate for people with bipolar and schizophrenia. I don’t think they will look badly on the fact that I turned down the offer from before would they?
Don’t give up hope you guys.
When I applied in 2011 I didn’t get my decision until like middle of June. This is especially true if you get a SGR from them (I did)
@lowermerion Yes I’m a legacy student.
Random question, do you guys know if USC is generous with their financial aid? Do they make it financially possible for a student to attend? Thanks!
Also, if we are admitted, are we allowed to take courses this summer at a community college and transfer them with us? Thanks again!
@Mick96 They have a financial aid calculator to estimate things and it’s fairly detailed. If it’s accurate, USC would give me over $40,000 in aid and my out of pocket expenses would be $10,500 and that’s only $1,300 more than UCLA would be for me. And I’m pretty sure you cannot take courses after being admitted. I believe Mister dmdwelle (I don’t remember how to spell his username) is a current student and has said this.
@zettasyntax Oh right on for the financial aid, thanks man! That’s not bad at all by the way, plus Trojan > Bruin lol. UCLA is a great school as well so congratulations on that bro! I’m kind of confused because my friend that goes to UCLA took classes the summer before starting there and they transferred along with him, is it different for USC because it’s private?
I’m pretty sure that calculator is more accurate for freshman, who they give much more aid to. If you look at their scholarships only like, 3 could help transfers while the majority are for freshman. They also are known for pulling most of the aid for your second year, so if money is a problem USC might not be the way go.
You should have no problem transferring a summer 2015 class. If its on your transcript when you arrive at orientation they won’t just pretend you never took it and cover it with white out - if there’s an equivalency at USC you’ll get the credit.
They might RECOMMEND not to take it because they’d rather you spend the money taking the class at USC, but you’re free to take a CC class if you want.
I actually informed them recently that I’ll be taking Physics 2 at CC this summer and they added that to my record with no qualms
I actually called the admissions office back in December because I my registration date for my cc was late and the calc classes would all fill up quickly so I was worried that if I don’t get in the class I would have no chance of getting in and they said that as long as you let your counselor know you are taking courses over the summer and you should be fine.
I don’t remember exactly what dmwelle said, but I’m pretty sure he mentioned something like most GE courses and such wouldn’t transfer over if you took them in the summer. I don’t recall him saying that you couldn’t take classes over the summer, just that you might not get unit credit for them at USC. I wonder what their official stance is on that.
If I remember correctly, once you are officially a student you can’t take GE’s at a CC, the credits won’t transfer over. You can take elective classes though.
@zettasyntax Yeah I remember him saying something like that too which is why I was/am confused. I’ll just shoot my counselor an email and ask her. By the way, is it true our counselors are the first ones who look at our application?
@Mick96 pm me
Does anyone know when Marshall is going to release their decisions to transfer students?
I have been waiting anxiously to know. Nevertheless, I got UCLA as a back up already 50% lower stress.
Well according to dmdwelle, Marshall will be the first school to release decisions this year then Dornsife and that’s ll he said so far So I’m guessing you should hear very soon @TitusWe Heck, maybe even this week several people will start to hear about their decisions.
Wait so we can start expecting to hopefully find some gold packets in our mailbox this week? Or will our decisions be online?
I seriously forgot the timeline of online decision to golden taco as they called last year. The online decisions would definitely be first. I believe it took about a 3 days to a week for people to get their gold packets after finding out on USConnect (I think that’s what they called YouSC last year). I’m very forgetful
I just wanted to chime in and tell you guys (and gals) to not give up hope, and don’t sweat the small stuff. I really didn’t know I was getting into USC until after I graduated from my community college. I wish you all the best.
@zettasyntax Do you know if it’s true that our counselor is the first person that reviews our application or is it just the admission committee? I remember someone once told me that our counselor is the one who first takes a look at our application.
