Haha i kind of noticed that too. While i am sure they give the middle class/low income students a chance too, it sort of seems like the well off students get a little bit more attention. Also i think usc really loves legacy.
Or it could that well off families have smarter parents so smarter children ? Lol just speculating .
@bobisweird No they don’t seem to prefer students from “well off families” if you see a trend that shows otherwise idk maybe you are on to something - my own theory would be that the kids who decided to attend could do so over going to a less expensive University? I’ve had friends who got into usc that turned it down because ucla would not cost as much but that is not the case for everyone - those who get great financial aid or scholarships can benefit from that too.
Someone said something about checking their OASIS and seeing the Restrictions Tab. It’ll show a date and it’s supposedly the date that the admissions reviewed your application. I’m not 100% sure about this, but that’s the date I was given hahaha ^ ^.
Today at my university (which is down the street from USC), we had admitted students day and I talked to this girl who was accepted into USC but USC did not give her a lot of financial aid but they gave scholarships and lots of aid to kids who were very well off.
@bobisweird I think that’s the case with many schools. I follow this one guy on Twitter and he’s a USC student that went to high school in Virginia. He seems so rich it isn’t even funny lol. He broke his iPhone 6 Plus and posted something like “oops, I guess dad has to buy me another one.” On the other hand, I also follow a guy that goes to UCLA and he’s always taking about shopping, going to Miley Cyrus concerts (and has tons of pictures meeting her), and just all kinds of stuff. I doubt it’s actually a problem on campus, but there probably are a few choice individuals that would give other students a bad name. I would definitely try to ignore those if I was accepted.
Wait so USC is basically doing “rolling admissions” right? So once they review our application they’re going to send us our decision? Or are they sending out the acceptances first?
@Mick96 Last year it seemed like SGR’s came out first in huge batches more so than acceptances. I believe rejections were last, but not many people posted about being rejected or posted their states/date of rejection, so there wasn’t a lot of data. Hard to say :-\
All of this is taking forever!! lol i want to know already!! It seems as if turned my application a year ago. Do you guys think a lot of us will here by the end of April? Also do you guys know if acceptance is relative to when you finish school. I know some people finish in late June, I finish on May 15th , so the end is near, if i really push through I’m looking at a 3.8-4.0 GPA this semester. Wish me luck!
Hey all, I just wanted to say hi and join you guys as a transfer hopeful! I’m currently a sophomore hopeful transfer to Viterbi astronautical. I will have the credit requirements and a GPA of 3.97 through two quarters at Oregon State. I’m also a trojan transfer plan. The waiting is killing me haha. Good luck to everyone!
@RAHforHEE that’s very true, I’m glad you brought that up a lot of people think that community college is a joke and there should be no reason why people are not getting 4.0s but I’ve had friends who’ve transferred from my cc to local uc’s and cal states and claim that classes were harder at cc.
@TheOneInCS also I think it is possible that other poster’s friend may have had a strong upward trend. It is extremely difficult to bring up your gpa when usc factors in courses you did poorly in unlike uc’s and cal states where they just replace the substandard grade with the class one retakes.
@MichaelTn Absolutely, but they have to add something to your application other than the cookie-cutter “he was a good student” statements. The admissions counselors can see you are a good student on your transcripts, so try to get your professors to write about something else.
