OFFICIAL UT AUSTIN APPEAL THREAD/ WAIT-LISTED APPLICANT

Does anyone recommend a college counseling service that helps with appeals?

If you’re willing to spend money then I don’t see why not?

Just got my appeal denied today, was worth a shot I guess.

Wow, that was quick. I have yet to see an appeal acceptance. UT probably doesn’t want to give students false hope so that’s why I’m going to wait a little more.

@LucidDream FYI - UT is changing the transfer requirement to 24 hours.
Also, my older daughter (a senior in college) knew of a girl who appealed twice and got it the second time. But, if it doesn’t work then go to ACC this summer and fall and apply in the fall for the spring. But, be prepared to make close to a 4.0 there. Search on rate my professor for teacher that are easier. It’s all about the GPA with these big schools.
My daughter appealed on April 14 and we’re waiting. 7 or more kids at our school appealed back in march and all won the appeal and were informed last week.

@Mandolin1 I am hesitating whether to send in my current grades or not. Not that they’re average in any way, I just feel rushed. What would you suggest I use to support my appeal?

@LucidDream Honestly, I don’t know. Admissions did say they will be taking appeals through the summer. I’ve only heard of that one girl appealing twice and she did win it. But, that was years ago and I wonder if she had big connections i.e. Family friend on board of regents. The second appeal probably won’t be effective without a big alumn or something significant that you haven’t already presented. However, if your grades have improved this semester I don’t see how it could hurt. Most likely you’ll need to go to a CC or other college and apply for a transfer. Really that’s not a bad idea for most 18-19 year olds. Would your parents let you go to Austin Community College? Truly- it all works out as it should. Your persistence is admirable though and will serve you well in life.

@Mandolin1 I live in Houston, but I don’t know if it’s worth moving to Austin just to go to a CC when I could just do that here as one of my options.

I recently applied to the University of Texas at Austin, and I unfortunately received news I was not accepted. I decided to call to see what the reasoning was and the man of admissions told me I did not have calculus in order to be considered for Cockrell College. This is where I noticed something was wrong. I knew I wasn’t going to get accepted into Cockrell College because I didn’t have calculus II finished so I thought I changed my choice of college to Liberal Arts. It obviously did not go through the system. Is this a valid reason for an appeal? Should I even try?! I’m just overwhelmed and don’t know what to do!

@LucidDream You appealed right? Did you get accepted?

I appealed a couple days ago, and my appeal was approved today to be under review. How long will it take for a decision to come out? Is it a good sign that it has been approved or is that a common occurrence?

Child Stats: GPA: 4.83 unweighted 5.22 Weighted 1460 SAT 35 ACT , NHS, Alpha Mu, Band, Boy Scouts, 4 AP passed 4 more this year. 6th Semester Rank 7.2% 7Th semester rank 6.8%

if you go to application site and list the items that were done then open details you can see the date your transcript was received. you can also see your class ranking this way.

I hope so same thing happened to my son but when I called counselor they stated that a) only sixth semester count, b) less than 2% of appeals are successful

Hey guys. I was diagnosed with ADHD this previous summer and as a result of treatment my GPA for my senior year is 11 points higher than any previous year. I did mention my diagnosis in my original application but did not have the transcript to show my improvement (which I have now). Do you think this is a good reason to appeal? Also I’m new here. What are some circumstances that people appealed for and were admitted?

my son appealed 3 weeks ago, 35 ACT, top 4%, 800s on Math 2 and Physics SATs, NHS, 4s and 5s on all APs, indoor rock climber, his new mid year grades were his best ever. His tx account now says under review, so they did open it back up.

jackl123 I would definitely send in an appeal. My son decided to appeal because others in his school lower ranked with less APs and lower test scores were accepted, and UT Austin was his #1 pick. His mid-year grades were off the chart and while we don’t have a decision yet the fact that he’s now under review shows they are at least considering him. Good luck!

Question: If a student were to appeal once entering the top 7% of their class at their texas public school, would the automatic acceptance rule still stand for that student.

@135pipe Could you give any words of advice on how you constructed your appeal letter?
