Everyone will be notified by March 15th. Many applicants will be notified earlier. Why the complaints?
everything will be okay! it’s super stressful & really scary to wait for decisions, but they’ll come sooner or later. im panicking too, but tbh worrying so much will just make you suffer even more, so try to relax a lil bit! you guys will all be okay!!
UWadmissionstaff literaly just posted when to expect info. Assume March 15th, and be pleasantly surprised if you get word before.
Then the admissions window shouldn’t be the 1st through the 15th. It should be the 15th. Bottom line. I think people aren’t understanding that most of us aren’t upset because we don’t have a decision yet- we are upset because there is lack of communication. Please take notice to every post from the UW rep. They’ve given us a “time” yet the tone of every message is topped off with complete uncertainty. Seems like they don’t have a clue when decisions will begin to roll, and should probably just be honest about it. The department should be upfront about the confusion when in reality all they’re doing is stalling.
This^^^
@literallyxdani Alright thanks for the reassurance but yea im so anxious. Good luck and I hope you get in!!
Yes, simply stating the date as March 15th would be cleaner.
@3boy$$$ That would be really impractical. They cannot send out all the mail in 1 day, and they definitely cannot update over 46,000 accounts in one day. Their servers wouldn’t be able to handle that.
It’s important that I make this clear now. Changing the date to one day, moving it 2 weeks earlier, later, etc, none of it matters. What matters is their ability to notify the applicants. Regardless of the time window, they give us, this situation that we’re in right now would persist. If they changed the window to a single day, some applicants would get the decision early, some late, etc. Our anxiety would still be widespread lol
Let’s just be glad that none of us have gotten the rejection/waitlist email yet, and stay optimistic. And let’s show some appreciation for the UW Admissions Office rep on this thread. We’re lucky to have one.
@JayTee2018 I disagree. Plenty of schools send out every single letter (admit, deny, waitlist) on one afternoon. Clemson being the best example that I can think of right now. Thats just above 30k applicants. Maybe one day for the portals wouldn’t suffice, but better off saying the 12th-15th rather than a whole two weeks of absolutely nothing but stalling until the last possible moment they can release decisions. At this rate, that’s invalid because they’re clearly not using the entire two weeks to update portals and probably will not start updating until Sat-Sun through the final day which is Weds. So it really doesn’t make a difference between a one day slot and a couple days of slots.
@JayTee2018 Absolutely, They gave a window up till 3/15 and they would be well within the window to not post a single decision until then. They are also under no obligation to feed us information like UWadmissionstaff has been kind enough to do. I for one am grateful for the info being provided.
We’re really not being fed any “info”, just a bunch of uncertain days. “End of the week”. So what’s end of the week. Is it today since they don’t work weekends? Is it Sunday? What “info”…?
university of michigan is the same.
@jkirsy If you need an exact date It’s 3/15, anything before that is a bonus. What more can they say, they are not done. I have no idea what it takes or what they are doing but I do know I wouldn’t want to do it!
@JayTee2018 UW is the only school out of 10 on list that set an expectation by publishing a date window. They are also the only school that doesn’t release decisions on one day.
Case in point, Boston University received 60,000 applications for 3,600 spots (way more apps than UW, for way less spots). BU states their deadline as ‘by April 1st’ but send frequent updates and a few weeks ago they informed applicants that decisions will be released on March 17th. This is a more typical approach.
I am not mad or anxious, just providing constructive feedback that UW could manage expectations a little better.
It’s definitely a case of ‘no good deed goes unpunished’ for the admissions staff - you share a little and everyone parses your words.
@robnrog Actually, it’s not an exact. Thats why they said the 1st through the 15th. In their email sent Feb 22 the title is “UW is Sending Admission Decisions March 1-15”. That implies that its starting the 1st and lasting through the 15th, no? If they needed more time they could’ve said so. They’re in the drivers seat here.
lf you refer to their last post it says there are two days left so i guess by “end of the week” they mean sunday.
just go with the flow
Guys calm down…UW communication has been the best out of the schools i’ve applied to. UC’s say their notification period is in march yet the only schools that have announced are riverside and merced. Im not expecting other UC’s to notify until mid to late march. They just say oh, its the 1st notifications start, and say nothing until you get an acceptance or rejection by the 30th.
UW has a notification period length that is half that of the UC’s and they have sent multiple emails, and have a representative on here informing everyone. We are all nervous, but complaining about it on here does no good.
Do yourselves a favor and go outside and do something, or focus in class.
Good luck to everyone
If you guys are complaining this hard about a 15 day deadline where no one has found out, I’d hate to see what you’d be like if you applied to Michigan
Then maybe along with UW- Mich and the UC schools should work on that, haha. All I’m saying!
