@intladm When did they confirm?
Whenever I see someone using the term “always” I instantly know that is a red flag to ignore what comes next…
Is the old myUW not loading for anyone else?
myuw.washington.edu/servlet/main/
Maybe they’re updating?
Never mind, my connection was slow. Haha
What what I’m saying is lots of schools don’t communicate or promise a certain date. Believe me, I get it what you all are going through as I have it going on in our own house and as I have told my daughter, I want what she wants. Parents DO feel everything you’re feeling. But if you’re expecting communication and promises, maybe a large state school is not for you. I don’t think the massive school is necessarily right for my kid and it might not be for you. A school with 45k applications to read does not really care that you all have heads exploding from anxiety…
Does anyone know if there’s a specific time they’ll start to come out, if they even do?
@maybeDmom I actually applied to 15 state schools. Even the 3 I was denied from had shown incredible communication, and the 2 I’m still waiting for (not including UW) have ALSO significantly been communicating. UW is not the only school who’s not the greatest at communication (depending on what you consider as communication) but I’ve seen plenty of schools who notice where they may be lacking and they pick it up for years to come. After looking back at the forums, it seems as though this could be a common theme that they have ignored. No one’s expecting promises, but it’s not extraordinary to want your prospective university to take interest in you as you’ve taken in them, accepted or denied. Other schools on the same level of excellence excel at that, why can’t UW?
I applied for Indiana University Bloomington, and they received 40k+ applications as well, but I got acceptance from it two weeks after I submitted my application. @maybeDmom
@JayTee2018 the college rep here did say that by today, they expect most decisions to be out on the portal. I’m not sure which page was that on but yes, I’m sure they did say that. Let’s hope it’s true
I think @EthansDad summed it up well. It’s not about anxiety, rather it’s the perception of the university. The admissions process is part of the brand and creates an impression on how well or poorly the school is organized.
It’s common sense that setting a date is the way to get things done. When a school can’t or won’t specify a date, it leaves the impression that it doesn’t have a plan. Volume of applications isn’t an excuse. Frankly, I’d expect large state schools to have a more structured approach than most.
Many schools publish their notifications as ‘by April 1st’ and beat that date by publishing a specific release date and provide updates.
Once again, very well said^^
@Qnaiin how did they transfer? Did they transfer after 2 years or for grad school? I was thinking about it if I felt like I could use more rigorous programs in the long run but I’m lowkey scared it looks bad
It makes me feel bad because we can see that UW’s rep is checking the forum but not updating us. I understand that they might not have the information that we are asking for, but it’d be nice to at least get some sympathy for the situation Admissions has squeezed us in. But then again, at least we have some form of communication other than calling Admissions, or being left in the dark. (edit: the representative has actually apologized for confusion, anxiety, etc. Though, I do feel like it is more needed now, seeing that most of what they’ve told us is still not coming to fruition.)
@maybeDmom Congratulations on your mastery of the patience virtue! Perhaps while the rest of us are working on patience you might know of someone who could work on the virtues of kindness or humility? BTW patience IS one of the 7 Heavenly virtues according to Pope Gregory; fortitude(patience) and temperance(humility) being amongst the original 4 greek virtues.
@maybeDmom Yes the students on this thread are impatient but your post was also impatient and not very mindful of the anxiety of these students - you may be right in all that you said but it wasn’t constructive. Everyone just needs to wait and sit tight and it will all be clear by the end of this month. And good luck to everyone!
As already stated, we anticipate (regard as probable; expect or predict.) most decisions to be posted on MyUW by the end of the week (there are 2 days left). The notification period for all decisions is through the 15th of March. Thanks for your patience!
The prophet has spoken
So does anyone know if you can see if you were waitlisted or denied on the portal? Is there a message for denial, or just acceptance?
Wow! Seriously your department doesn’t know if they will release any decisions today? Sounds like there is a need for new leadership in admissions…someone that can make a decision and communicate it…
Even though I’m pretty salty I didn’t get into Ohio State, at least they let their rejections know when they’ve been rejected rather than holding them until their ~Jan 15th release date. Wish UW would take a page out of some other big state schools books.
