***Official UW Class of 2023 Decision Thread***

hey guys, if anyone is knowledgable on the question in the #77 post, your answer (for my case and for engineering in general) would be appreciated!

Hey @omnom2169 ! Don’t know if you’ve seen this before, but here is a link to some Mechanical Engineering admissions statistics:
https://www.me.washington.edu/prospective/ug/admission/statistics
Keep in mind these have been posted before Direct to College (DTC) freshman admission was offered as an option. One statistic I often see is that the general engineering programs at UW have around a 40% acceptance rate.

MyUW portal has a link to an unofficial transcript, as I have taken UW courses in high school. Typically this unofficial transcript loads with the current timestamp, however since just after mid-night Feb 22, the transcript loads but the timestamp has remained “frozen”. Not sure if this related to some maintenance (seems like a long outage for that), or if others are seeing similar issue. Could be that portal has locked the transcripts to update admitted major info and is only showing stale/cached version?

@SeniorSzn She mentioned something about mailing out decisions between March 1-15. I actually talked to my counselor and she said that it means they are seriously considering us for the Honors College! Also-- i may be wrong but my friend thinks she has figured out a way for us to check whether we got in. If you applied with two majors, you can check your portal. If it just has one major on your page, it means that’s the major you got accepted into. This worked for a couple different people I know, so you may want to check it out

@UWHope Wow! Really? My requested major was changed from “Computer Science, App & Comp Math Sci (Discrete Math & AI)” to “Computer Science, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES.” Is this the case you said in your previous comment? I’m not sure what do you mean by “applied with two majors” because in the application form, one major choice is your requested Direct to Major admission while the other one is a sort of academic preference for counselling.

@danielz233 could you please tell me how to check if I had applied for more than 1 major? I made a huge mistake by forgetting to note down whether I had applied to two majors or one.

For now my requested major says “Mechanical Engineering, COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING”

But I have no idea if it stated two majors prior to this.

Is there anyway I can know if I applied for two majors now?

@omnom2169 Sorry. I have no idea what did @UWHope mean by “applied with two majors.” I don’t think there’s a choice for a second major. When I was filling out my application, I selected computer science as my requested major for consideration of direct to major admission and “Computer Science, App & Comp Math Sci (Discrete Math & AI)” as academic preference (as stated in the application form) for university’s academic counselling. BTW, you can open your Coalition account to find out the details of application form.

Sorry I didn’t mean applied with two majors. I meant your two interests. @danielz233 that’s not the site I was referring to, I think that happened with everyone. There’s one your counselor can access.

@UWHope Umm. I am an international student and I have to enter my scores in the Coalition and upload a scanned version of my transcript through Coalition’s locker. Is “https://sdb.admin.uw.edu/admissions/uwnetid/appstatus.asp” the portal you referred to?

There should not be any way to check whether you have received admittance into the university - I think this is just too far of a reach. You can speculate but nothing is suggested let alone confirmed until you receive an official acceptance. Please take these portal technicalities with a grain of salt. I believe the major the portal lists is just the one you requested entrance into and nothing more, and the absence of your second requested major is due to the fact that it is for advising purposes only.

Colleges have defined admission release dates for a reason and definitely will know if something hints at an acceptance prior to that given date. We’ll all know soon enough!

Does anyone know the acceptnace rate for Communications major??

@UWHope Wow!
My portal says the following things.

Additional application information:

If any of the following application information is incorrect, contact the Admissions Office.
Your date of birth (month-day-year): *******?
You applied for: autumn quarter 2019
Type of application form you submitted: Freshman
Residency: Resident
You requested the following major: Neuroscience
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

Well my portal says page not found…not sure what’s going on…

edit: just kidding, I reloaded it.

Does anyone know when decisions about the Honors program are released relative to regular admits?

@pachec Per the UW honors admissions webpage, the notification period is March 19-April 13, so separate from (and later than) regular admissions.

So I’m completely clueless…does UW send your admissions decision via email or in the mail?

@bandgeekwriter Most people will get their admissions decision via the MyUW portal. In past years, I believe a lot of people didn’t get email notification of when their decision was posted on the portal so there was a lot of incessant checking, and emails that did arrive were either rejections or notification of waitlist status. Decisions are mailed, but usually are posted on the portal before you get a physical acceptance package.

When are we expecting to hear back? Any ideas?

@cokegirl530 UW provides the decision window of March 1-15. Last year I believe they came out on either the 9th or the 10th, but it does change every year. Additionally the UW was closed for an entire week (?) due to the snow days so it may be delayed. I’d guess around the same time as last year but not sure.
