then why is it %?
does it mean that in a class of 200 students, the average rank was 6.78/200 or the rank in a class of 200 students was 3.39/200?
Sorry for the confusion.

It means that the average student is in the top 3.39% of his or her graduating class. Like how when they say top 10%, this is just the top 3-4%. No worries, I was confused before too!

awesome! thanks!

Welp there goes my chance at getting in…

sighs…that is all i can say

I always knew I had no chance but was a little hopeful. Now I have no hope lol

Wow - based on those statistics the Class of 2017 is one smart class.

That is some impressive set of statistics!! Congratulations to all who are fortunate enough to be accepted.

Just looked through the blog post today.

That. is. disgusting.

I honestly saw Vanderbilt as a pretty realistic reach school; little did I know that my SAT scores were borderline/below the 25th percentile for this year! Already got into UVa… and, judging by how bad it’s predicted to be for the Ivies and schools like Duke and Vanderbilt, I don’t even know how I pulled UVa!

Same exact situation. I knew that Vanderbilt would be a toss up but am now amazed that I even got into UVa

To put my/our frustration into perspective, look at Harvard’s SAT range from last year:

Test Scores – 25th / 75th Percentile
SAT Critical Reading: 700 / 800
SAT Math: 710 / 790
SAT Writing: 710 / 800
ACT Composite: 32 / 35
ACT English: 33 / 35
ACT Math: 31 / 35
ACT Writing: 8 / 10

Think about it… a better SAT/ACT range than Harvard.

Well we sure picked a great year to apply to college then huh?

HAHAHAHAHAHA.
i can’t stop laughing oh my gosh.

I guess the class of 2017 is used to beat HYPS? Judging from the stats, I think I really have no chance at all.

To those of you commenting on the SATs and ranks, the colleges are being less than transparent. You are comparing apples and oranges but the schools have obscured that fact. Those accepted to both Harvard and Vanderbilt are likely to be the top % of their applicant pool but the very top are less likely to choose Vanderbilt than those in the bottom portion of the accepted pool. Scores and other indices for those accepted to Vanderbilt and those that end up going to Vanderbilt will look very different. Unfortunately publishing the accepted data may discourage many in Vanderbilt’s target group from applying because they may not think they have a shot when compared to the resulting class, their stats would make them competitive. On top of all this is the fact that many schools are wait listing students they know need aid or they think won’t come because they haven’t shown enough interest. The process needs to be more transparent!

Lol preparing for a rejection letter in the mail today <333333333

I have something to add to Insidelane and to adjust HONORLIONS statement. The Vandy SAT statistics you are looking at are for their RD decisions ONLY. These stats do not include the SAT scores of admitted students from EDI and EDII. Just a second reason that this is comparing apples to oranges. One cannot surmise or proclaim that Vandy has a better SAT range than Harvard based on Vandy’s - 1) Regular Decision 2) Admitted - statistics versus Harvards ENROLLED statistics.

You can do a search of common data set information for the 2012-13 school year to get basic enrolled information, at least for last year.

[The Vanderbilt Profile|Undergraduate Admissions|Vanderbilt University](<a href=“Vanderbilt At A Glance | Undergraduate Admissions | Vanderbilt University”>Vanderbilt At A Glance | Undergraduate Admissions | Vanderbilt University)

These are last year’s statistics of enrolled students. The scores there are still extremely high. And considering that only 9% of their enrolled students are Asian, I’m actually starting to get nervous now. :<

Reflection

Strengths: My violin playing, and the fact that I already study at Blair so they know me and my teacher really wanted me. Good academics for a Blair student. National Merit Finalist
Weaknesses: My scores are good, but not exceptional. Haven’t taken many AP courses. Not many Extra-curriculars besides violin
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Probably the combination of my audition/my teacher/good academics for a Blair student
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Samford University (accepted, fellows program)
General Comments: I think if I didn’t play violin I would have had no chance at getting accepted or getting a CV scholarship, after looking at these stats. Yay for musical skills! I am so excited to go to Vandy, and so happy I got a full scholarship. Good luck to everybody!!
