I am in 5 clubs (2 academic, 1 service, 1 preprofessional, 1 recreational sports) at my current school. In high school I did less clubs, but did an individual science research project, a music solo performance once a year, and interned in a research lab and worked in corporate for a small company last summer.

Everyone says to focus on one thing and get a leadership position etc. but I’m pretty eclectic and I think that’s one of my strengths, so I’m just doing ECs that I really want to.

Hi guys! I applied to CAS for mathematics.
Still waiting for the decision /:
What do you guys think about my stats?

Oregon State Univ. Sophomore
GPA 3.80 overall 3.90 major
Major: Mathematics Minor: actuarial science
No SAT or ACT (I was homeschooled and took GED, and OSU doesnt require SAT/ACT for GED holders)
Hooks: first generation immigrant, extremely poor but I did LOTS of volunteer
Letters: got from 3 professors(1 writing, 2 mathematics), really good ones
Essays: Pretty good.
EC: I worked A LOT, mostly as a math tutor. I also worked as a full-time math substitute at a public school district in a impoverished area for a while. Also Im an academic coach at OSU.

What do you guys think?/:
I recently got admitted to U of Michigan and UT Austin, and waiting for Vandy, cornell, grinnell, and wellesley.

I’m currently a Vandy student that transferred this year, and I’m going to be quite involved in the transfer orientation process next year. As much as I loath this website, I’ll admit that I used it bit when I was doing the transfer process/entering my freshmen year. Overall, this year has been fantastic, and I want to be a resource for you guys as soon as possible.

BTW, I keep seeing this belief of “discrimination against vandy transfers”, which is total ■■■■■■■■. Any transfer student is respected and has a fairly easy ability to assimilate on campus.

Ask some questions and I’ll try to get back to you in a timely manner. It’s finals right now and stress is everywhere, but Vandy payed for everyone to get free, professional massages on Alumni Lawn today, so I’m feeling a little bit better!

Also, I don’t want to “chance” you guys. I’ll just say that Vanderbilt Admissions favors the undergraduate record more when evaluating transfer applicants.

CONGRATULATIONS @ktmalt95 . @TransferGirlSoph couldn’t agree more. @RousseauDoe Thank you for that information! It’s really helpful, and puts my mind at ease :)

@RousseauDoe Where do the majority of transfer students get placed for housing? Do we have any input in where we get placed/can we switch at the beginning of the year?

In the past, transfers students were all placed in the same area in old kissam. In recent years, they have been split up all over campus, being placed in towers, vandy barnard, and blakemore. It’s unfortunate because transfers get to select after the rest of the student body, you won’t likely get into a desired dorm like branscomb, which is mostly sophomores, right when you get to campus. However, housing is willing to work with you, and if you can’t change your assignment during the fall, then you can definitely change at semester, as many people do spring study abroad.
