Does anyone know the acceptance rate for last year? I know in 2012 it was 32% but couldn’t find any data about last year

It was right around 30% for last year, I believe. The CDS Profile has everything and is a really good resource.

https://virg.vanderbilt.edu/virgweb/CDSD.aspx?year=2013

Hello all!

I’ve noted that only a few people appear to be applying to the Peabody College.

Nevertheless, the statistics look pretty good for most transfer applicants to Vanderbilt University. After doing some calculations using the Common Data Sets (CDSs), Vanderbilt averaged a 29.38% transfer acceptance rate over the past 3 years of available data.

Also, for those applying who feel that there is literally no chance, please refer to this link: <a href=“Official 2013 Transfer Decisions - #51 by brighton93 - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums”>Official 2013 Transfer Decisions - #51 by brighton93 - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums. brighton93’s stats were really not exceptional, but he had some compelling ECs and apparently good essays. Bear this kind of information in mind while waiting for your decision and if you’re ever hopeless or distraught about your chances.

Here are some of my stats-
Applying to: Peabody College of Education and Human Development
Major Interested In: Child Development
Pre-Professional Interest: Pre-Health/Pre-Med
Application completed: most materials were received by mid-February

Current College: Rutgers University-New Brunswick
Current GPA: 2.929 (I did poorly this past semester, but continue reading)
Credits earned: 14.0 (12.0 in progress)
Previous College: Case Western Reserve University
Final GPA Upon Withdrawal: 3.724
Credits earned: 29.00
Overall College GPA (from both Universities): ~3.465

High School GPA: 3.839 UW/4.061 W
Standardized tests: 1110/1780 on SAT (I did poorly due to some extenuating circumstances that I tried my best to clear up in my application)
Where from?: NJ

Significant ECs: Volunteered on local first aid corps for my township in high school, volunteered with a family from Darfur in Sudan, teaching them literacy and helping them earn U.S. citizenship, ran JV Cross Country through Junior year of high school, completed >50 hours of community service during my freshman year at Case Western, primarily volunteering at the local children’s hospital

Comments: I really tried to be passionate in my essays and with my email correspondences with Admissions. I also really sought to explain things in coherent ways, so that the Admissions Committee would really get to know all about me. I’m hoping that the Peabody College will receive less transfer applicants, thereby increasing my odds at least somewhat.

Personal message me with any questions and such.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hey, @TransferFall14! You have some some really good stats! Glad to see that you posted.

What are some of the hooks of your applications, everyone?

Did anyone submit an additional Vandy specific essay? or just make their common app Vandy specific?

@Celtic02

I submitted just a Vandy specific essay as my Common App essay.

Vandy didn’t have a Vandy specific essay. I wrote about a leadership program that I’m currently involved with and related it to how I wanted to learn how to become a leader in management thorough majoring in HOD at Peabody! I wish we would have had more than 250 words, but it is what it is!

@transfergirl818, you’re right, Vanderbilt didn’t have a “Vandy specific” essay option as their supplement. But many people write Vandy specific essays as their main Common App essay, like I did, because it allowed me to express specifically why I wanted to transfer to Vanderbilt.

I didn’t do that I applied to other schools too because I hope to have options and wouldn’t want to chance it on 1 school. However, doing Vandy specific will let them know that you are very interested so it may be an advantage! Before we know it decisions will be coming out! I’m excited/nervous

@transfergirl818

I’m not trying to transfer away from my current school because I hate it; I’m trying to transfer to Vanderbilt because it’s the only place I’d rather go that’s not my current school. But it makes sense that you wouldn’t be able to do that if you’re applying to more than one school.

And I know, me too! Around 16-19 days!

@TransferFall2014 Omg that’s so nice to help a family out!! You deserve to be admitted for that :)

I didn’t write a specific essay because I was applying to other places, too. I did, however, email my counselor saying I didn’t feel like I expressed my interest in Vandy and am worried about it.

I think CA now allows as many versions and edits as you’d like. I can edit essays even if I submitted my apps.

I’ve made some AMAZING friends here, but I honestly don’t like my school. My friends and my dorm are pretty much the only things I like.

@CaptTShannan

I’m put to shame by your stats. I’m too embarrassed to share ;). I think you have a great chance of getting in. I’m applying transfer because I applied in high school, but my EC’s were pretty weak. I ended up getting wait listed and ultimately the class filled up and I wasn’t offered a place. While disappointing, I was strongly recommended to apply transfer this year. I’m also at a state school right now, and Vandy is my top and only choice. I wrote a Vandy specific essay on the common app.

Now I’m just slowly dying while we wait.

@jfcampos

Haha, it’s nice of you to think that I’ll get in. But if you got waitlisted in high school, you must have the stats to get in.

And the wait is killing us all.

@CaptTShannan My stats are fairly average. I think I’m helped by the fact that I’m a dual citizen (so they can count me with their international student stats even though I’m not an international students), and because of that I speak a couple languages, and I’m a legacy. Basically a bunch of stuff I didn’t do anything besides being born to earn. Ahaha.

I decided to do study abroad this semester, so hopefully that will be that final EC that gets me in

@jfcamos Does studying abroad look good on an application? If it does, i’ll certainly have to consider it then.

@BasicKoell08 From what I’ve heard (nothing specifically from Vanderbilt) it helps. It’s just uncommon that students actually do it (only 1% of all U.S. students actually study abroad). It just shows that you’re willing to put yourself out there in a situation where you have very little control, and commit to it for a semester or a year. Students who participate in study abroad are more likely to graduate, find employment post graduation, and (probably most pertinent) increase their GPA post study abroad.

@BasicKoell08 Also, whether or not it looks good on an application, I would absolutely recommend doing it. It is 100% worth it even if just for the experience!

@jfcampos I certainly would! Where did you go?

Has anyone emailed their counselor for questions? I emailed mine like last week and have not gotten a response yet. Are they just busy with the freshmen application decisions?

@Juvenis, I want to email mine just so he keeps my name in mind lol. But I don’t really know what to ask.

@BasicKoell08, what are your stats?

@jfcampos, have you done any other EC’s? And what’s your current GPA and such?
