3.65 GPA community college transfer student.

I just checked today and I am on the waitlist. Though I don’t plan on attending Cal Poly anyways, at least I’ve heard from them (Fullerton hasn’t given me any news!). Even if I was accepted here I couldn’t go cause I haven’t taken a statistics class! :[

I called and talk to one of the admissions officers and was told that wait listed is exactly what it means. We have to wait until those who did get accepted decide to go or not. For transfers like me we will have to wait till july 15th to see if we got the spot or not. They said to keep our options open and to not depend on SLO accepting us. There is no ranking and some majors are more impacted than others. The way they chose was based of off location and if you lived in that are you most likely got in.

I just checked the portal and found out I was waitlisted.
Major: Biomedical Engineering

800 Math 2 SAT II

4s in AP World History and Chemistry
A friend of mine with a lower SAT, lower grades, and less AP/honor classes just got into an engineering major he knows nothing about. I’m extremely confused and disappointed at the moment with the Cal Poly admissions office. I was also wondering if I was waitlisted because I picked a relatively obscure engineering major that Cal Poly just recently began offering. I’m also fearful of other responses from UCs now that I’ve been waitlisted by a Cal State.

When all is said and done, I would be curious to see how this year compares to past years, both in terms of the number of people waitlisted and as far as average stats are concerned for those waitlisted.

I am just amazed at some of the great stats that so many of you have that have been waitlisted. You just can’t take this too personally (easy to say I know).

Unfortunately I think this is a combination of the “perfect storm” of a ripple of state cutbacks, many people deciding they now can’t afford a private or UC, and all that coupled with the largest high school graduating class entering college in many years.

@Saladbar12: Don’t be worried about all of your UC’s just because SLO waitlisted you. At this point in time its easier to get into any of the UC’s for engineering except UCLA and UCB than at SLO. Theres just not enough room there. It’s not like you got waitlisted from CSUN or CSULB (then I would worry more about UC’s lol)

After reading the posts here, my son went to his cal poly portal and found that he too was waitlisted. This has made him discouraged. He has 3.98 GPA, 2200 SAT, 35 ACT, SAT II Math 2 710, Biology 710, Physics 720. he applied for ME, and knows kids at his school with lesser grades who got in. Disappointed in the cal state system.

S waitlisted for Mechanical Engineering. GPA 4.01 unweighted 4.3, SAT 2050, SAT Math 700, Many EC inlcuding hundreds of hours of Community service. No work experience or experience related to his major. This stinks.

well if they won’t let us know until may 15, then i’m gonna give up on SLO because other schools require commitment before may 1…so oh well. i’m not gonna wait for something that may or may not happen.

This is the main cover story on USA Today. Some of you parents and students may take heart in this, even though it doesn’t help our situation. They focus on the California college admissions dilemma:

this has nothing to do with the Cal State system…SLO is just a very competitive campus…they turn away over 3000 applciants with 4.0 or higher gpa’s every year and this year they had a record app pool

I got Wait listed at CPSLO in their college of agriculture, And just received their letter. It says I can expect to hear about my wait list status by July 15 for fall 2010. That seems WAY far off. All my other choices say that the intent to register period is April 1-May1. This is a bit of a pickle I’m in. What if i wait it out, then they don’t admit me. I would be going back to jc for another year. No bueno.
