Official Waitlist Discussion 2016

@ixiedin: Could you please let us know what he/she replies? Thanks & crossing my fingers!

yeah please ixi

Sure, I think I’ll hear back tomorrow–I’ll post mine as well

how did you already send in your transcript?

I wonder when Pharyngula got the email. When I called this morning to check the yield, the person answered the phone saying they will post it on the web site either tomorrow or Friday. The person indicated that there will only be a very small number that they can take off. I definitely didn’t detect the zero possibility tone. Maybe I was unknowingly/wishfully filtered out the negative?

wait. i thought the waitlist was an ongoing process. They POST decisions?

@bluelover…I think 2yuexue meant that UChicago will post their yield on their website, not decisions. Also, ixiedin was referring to “posting” the email response from his regional adcom on this forum.

Got off the waitlist today… But was offer a place in the UChicago Class of 2017 instead. If I take this offer, I’ll have to take a GAP year… Anyone else received this GAP Year Admission Program?

Sounds like they are filled for 2016. Are you going to take a 2017 place?

Hey where do u guys check? Do they send email to u or u hav to go to a website and check urself? If theres a website can someone link me? Thanks!

David,

How were you informed? By phone call or email or status change on UC account? ANd What time?

Thanks!

David, where are your other choices? Personally, I would probably go to another school instead because unless you have things planned for the next year already, it’s not worth waiting that long.

I got a call today at 3:30 offering me a spot to the class of 2017.

I haven’t heard back from my admissions officer yet (it takes him longer to respond now that they are working on the waitlist), but it seems from David TheRealSunshine that the class for this year is full…oh well.

Btw to the guys who got the offer, would you mind sharing what you did after you were waitlisted and/or your geographical region/talents?

My adcom is out of town until Monday…sigh…

But on another note, wouldn’t they just not have accepted people if the Class of 2016 was too full? There have been numerous posts by UChicago that there have been years where no one was accepted.

Maybe they’re changing the game this year? I looked through all previous UChicago threads on waitlists and gap year offers seem to be something new. I think they don’t want to lose some of the people on the waiting list but they REALLY don’t have beds/want to fix their problem of overenrollment, so they are making this offer in the hopes that the kids will take up on it and wait a year for UChicago.

TBH I don’t think many people will take up on this offer…kids who are good enough to be taken off the list are likely to have other good schools to go to and most won’t be willing to give up their deposit AND wait another year to go to UChicago.

I sent an email right after the decision expressing my continued interest and asked what I could to do better my chances. My rep said that I didn’t need to do anything besides accept the place on the list, but of course I didn’t listen. I ended up sending her a physical packet (thought it made it more personable) containing a letter reiterating my interest and reason for sending the packet, a love letter addressed to the school, a letter of recommendation from a director at a non-profit I began working at since sending in my original application, and a list containing the top ten reasons she should let me off the waitlist (#3 I look fabulous in maroon, #2 my magic 8 ball said I would “without a doubt” dominate life at Chicago). Overall, I just expressed more interest than the majority of candidates, this was my third round of sending in materials like that (ED, RD, waitlist). I absolutely love the school and made sure that there wasn’t a doubt in my reps mind that it was my dream to go here, I guess for me it was enough!

That’s some serious dedication! I’m glad they picked you because you obviously LOVE their school  Congrats TheRealSunshine!!

Now reject them and tell them to give your spot to ixiedin. :P

I wonder whether there are any rejected notices sent out today…

Last year they did not release anyone from the waitlist until mid-June, and even then some people were moved into an extended waiting list, so I doubt that anyone will be rejected from the list so soon in the process.
