well, last year did they also offer GAP year first then for 2016? I am sure there were few taking off for 2015 in middle June.

How did you all find out that 15 applicants were accepted from the waitlist so far, especially since it’s only been 2 days after the May 1 deadline? I thought that waitlist stats weren’t posted, period.

Thank you! :)

[Colleges grow their waitlists, leaving more students in limbo - Chicago Tribune](<a href=“Colleges grow their waitlists, leaving more students in limbo”>Colleges grow their waitlists, leaving more students in limbo)

Page 1 says that about 3,000 were waitlisted this year, and page 2 says 15 were accepted of the list by the time the article was published.

I also suddenly thought of this. Does this mean that we are no longer picked based on what certain criteria that UChicago needs for this year’s class? Ex. they need more girls interested in STEM. We are no longer considered for the Class of 2016 as it seems, and they have no way of telling what kinds of talents they need for the Class of 2017 as soon as now. Just wondering.

^That’s an excellent point. I wonder what criteria they’ll be using to move students off the waitlist and into the Class of 2017.

ixiedin, that’s incorrect about no one being accepted off of the wait list last year until June. I was accepted off of the list last year on May 2nd.

They emailed me yesterday…

I am probably going to Georgetown SFS… Haven’t thought anything about a gap year until I got this offer

Are any of your e-mails to your regional admissions officer bouncing? I have been trying so send an update to my application for about 2 weeks now and the e-mail keeps coming back with “Undelivered mail returned to sender”. I was just wondering whether the issue was on their side or on mine.

Also, those who got off the waitlist with an offer for next year, did any of you require financial aid?

@mimillman

When I said “release” I meant “reject”. I was trying to say that they didn’t officially reject those on the waitlist until mid-June or so. Sorry for the ambiguity!

Still there is something different between 2015 and 2016. For 2016 they offered GAP year before only true acceptance…

And congrats to you too davidchen Georgetown is a great school so you won’t be missing out whether you decide on the gap year or not in the end

2yuexue I know…I can only hope that they won’t be changing the system too much and that we’ll still be considered till June. The gap year offers are bittersweet news.

I doubt I will accept a gap year offer; I just think it’s better to move forward instead of holding out for UChicago (there’s always grad school). Looks like it’s UPenn for me…

Pharyngula,

UPenn is a wonderful choice! Congratulations! You still haven’t share with us, did UC called you or emailed you?

Oh crap, seems like I’ve gotta hurry my “Education in Chile” essay.

Just got a letter added to my profile stating that I’m not going to be offered a place. Not sure if it means that they’re through with the process but it does mean they’re rejecting some…

The letter, for those who are interested:
Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Chicago and for your patience during the waitlist process. This year’s applicant pool was the strongest and most enthusiastic in the university’s history, and we wish we were able to offer admission to every worthy applicant. However, I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2016.

I recognize that this message may come as a disappointment to you. Nevertheless, the “Life of the Mind” lives on wherever there are those to carry the banner, and I know you will engage your future educational plans with the same enthusiasm and initiative that led you to consider us. You are a talented scholar, and you will do well wherever you matriculate. Though we are unable to offer you a space at UChicago this time around, we hope you will think of us if you apply to graduate school.

Best wishes in the transition to your college home,

Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

^ Got the same rejection. Looks like they changed the system a lot this year!

Can’t say it didn’t hurt but at least we were lucky enough to be considered for admission.

S got letter too. Caltech it is.
