Official Writing November thread

how is that related with literature affecting the real world?

I had a different prompt.

i wrote about wuthering heights and antigone. damn, i usually have tons of time left over for the essay when i practice, but this time...i was so pressed for time.

Not the same Test. I think his was the same as mine. That being something like "Is there too much value placed on the ideas and opinions of Individuals?"
I used specalists and anti-trust laws

haha I finished with like 45 seconds to read over/revise. I changed, like, one thing, then he called time.

i did pride and prejudice and i sneaked history in by introducing history as a "his " " story" and wrote about FDR and "the only thing to fear is fear itself"

madame. I put instead of being "despite". it should if been in spite of i am pretty sure because there IS a difference between the two. Madame how many no errors? Also the one about
In may, contstruction began blah blah. I put A (it was about buildings)
And what did you put for the one about
Artifacts more than 600 years old. I heard this error before and like that it was... using than improperly because than represents a comparison or something.
Anyhow 1 total no error for me.

And whoever asked how many times I took this was my last and 4th time. Thats not a lot.
1st time - 1940
2nd - 2080
3rd - 2180
4th hopefully 2250 or so.
And see i have been improving every time. I am not like some people who come to an impasse :9
Anyhow madame also, what did you put for LAST question on section 10? I put A
And on that section did you for the one about achieving goals (section 10 question 9 or so) put A also?
Last question.
On MC first part of writing there was one about this guy and his music meriting. (like Although (name) is not known for blah blah, _________)
IN the blank it would have to describe him so I put E (started with he. A B And C started with music which would be misplaced modifier... right?)

No, despite and in spite are synonymous.

im not sure but i think i put what il bandito put

No they are not. GOogle it. You are using dictionary.com. You use despite when there is a drastic change or so. (just type it in google). Does anyone remember the exact sentence? NM i read it wrong. You guys are right. It was being or no error. I dont know which. What about the other questions i put up guys?

Um, I think your over analyzing it stylistically. Despite the fact. In spite of the fact. Same connotation.

Also:
http://www.governor.wa.gov/gmap/plaintalk/start/style_guide.pdf

"More than and over can both be used before numbers."

I recall the question about the music merit crap, an i also recall feeling confident after answering, but i have no idea what my answer was but it was either D or E

Anyone remember the one about Singer and sewing machine?

I chose "ensuring he would" I remember would in my choice. I was in a quandary between that and "ensuring his"

I had the same answer. "ensuring...would"

wasnt it like " , ensuring he would...."

what did you guys get for the anthony collecting planes or something?

yes it was.
What about hte one about merit
The choices A B C started with the word merit.
however it starts of by saying
Although name has never recieved recognition, __________. I put E because E started with HE and not merit (misplaced modifier i think..)
And what did you guys put for the one about goal achieving on section 10? I was between A and C and put A.

does it hurt to phrase one of your main points as a question in the body paragraphs on the essay? I was rushing and just wrote it as it came to mind.

Responding to the original post here...

I think I put A or B. It was the word 'cover' that was incorrect, it should have been 'covered' or, if you wanted to use present tense, 'covers' (black snow=singular)

Can't remember

'More than' is okay, if used in the right context, I'd have to see the sentence though.
27-29. I got D for all of those, & I spent some time checking over them, but they seemed to be pretty clear errors.

XD I'm not the only one who becomes paranoid when there are 3+ of the same letter in a row. Which is good to know.

Oh, & I had either 1 or 2 No Errors for that section, I believe 1 though.

im pretty sure it wasnt E for the merit because it's a faulty comparison he and the music. the original was fine
