Stewart, you transfering too??

Shouldn't this wait until at least the application comes online, or students get a look at their college freshman year (or both)?

this was actually made for all those who get rejected for sophomore status this fall 08 and wanted to get a headstart, and will be applying as juniors next fall, not sophomores, but everyone is welcome to contribute

What are the chances of acceptance from a community college?
Or, even, is the prestige of any school a major factor on acceptance (since it IS an Ivy League)...?

I want to attend Yale so I plan to apply. I know that I have little chance, but I have to try anyway.

@ jemmayale:

I certainly admire your confidence and wish you all the best come application time. However it seems that the reason for why you want to transfer is mainly because of prestige and the fact that Yale is "your fit", both are probably the most common reasons for transferring. Unless you have a specific program that Yale offers which your college doesn't and use that as a reason, your essay is not going to hold.

I hope you view this as a form of constructive criticism, again I wish you the best of luck.

iwantprestige,

Good advice....but totally ironic.

Jackpot. . .

This thread is ironic.

live it up,
I doubt prestige is a factor. If however it is, then some of us are screwed.

lol my previous post was ironic but I have a reason for transferring that is not related prestige at all (i'm not applying to Yale anyway).

thts ironic iwantprestige, since ur username suggests that you want prestige lol

Anybody here can tell me how long can the essays be for the Yale transfer application? Also, I took time off (just a semester) right after high school to travel around the northeast of the USA. Should I write the third essay Yale requires for students who took time off of school after graduating high school? I'm a little bit confused since I consider that my absence was for a very short period and this particular essay seems more applied to students who have been absent for a year or longer.

I got another question. For the financial aid application, it requires financial information from both parents. My father, although owes me child support, is unattainable. My father abandon me at a very prime age (7 to be exact). He has contact me in the last few years but after a very heated argument we are no longer speaking and I don't know where he is. Do I still have to submit his information? If not, how do I let Yale know about my situation?

Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely, Jemma

Not true. My essay didn't mention once a specific program that Yale had that my previous school didn't and I got accepted.

To everyone:

Good luck this year! Don't let the ridiculously low acceptance rate deter you. I felt that the odds were impossible for me, and I almost didn't bother applying to Yale... which would have (obviously) been a huge mistake. Hang in there and do your best. Just remember, they have to accept someone.

@jemmayale

I'm not sure about the third essay. You might want to call them, but considering it's not a significant absence I'd imagine you wouldn't need to. As for length, I made sure mine were no longer than one page single spaced. I wouldn't go much over that, honestly. Being concise is a critical aspect of good essay writing.

MagiTF : was your main essay more like a frosh essay (that is, story/creative-ish?) or was it more just like a conversation where you told them specifically how you felt and what you were looking for?

Mine wasn't a story/creative. It was basically about what's important to me and how I feel Yale complements that.

okay, thanks (again!) for your sharing :)

haha, Thank you MagiTF, always so helpful!
btw, I have got a questions. how to understand yale's characteristics? what ppl does it like? i think it's not enough to just browse the college website. thx!

MagiTF, what was your case with transfer credit? I mean was the number of transferable credits an issue in your application?
