Fall quarter or the summer? And, are you a community college transfer and how were you informed that you were on the wait-list in the first place? Sorry, I’m fairly new to all the procedures…

@UDUBHUSKIES: It’s not that I want to go to Eastern… It’s just really cheap. The reason I was going there in the first place was because I applied to UW, EWU, UO, and Portland State. I got into the other three, but I didn’t have the right major to qualify for WUE, so the Oregon schools were out. That left me with Eastern before I was admitted to UW. The only reason I’m still considering it is solely the price. I already spent $350 on Eastern, and it’s only $16,500 a year, while UW is around $22,000-$25,000. My EFC is 0, so hopefully I can get enough aid, but that’s quite the price difference. I applied for EWU over like, Western because Eastern is close to Spokane which is the biggest city besides Seattle in the state.

Obviously, UW is a better school in about every way, and I’d way rather go there… it’s just a money issue haha. It was the first school I ever had an interest in going to way back in 7th grade or so, and I am in love with Seattle. I just wish it was cheaper.

What profession do you want to go into?

It seems to me like with virtually anything you want to do, your opportunities & the contacts you make & just the name on your diploma (UW is much more prestigious) would increase your future earnings and would more than pay for the difference in cost. I think you have to think long-term. $350 is NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. $4,709 * 4 in loans (you could also try to graduate in three years to reduce debt) is also not that much compared to your future earnings.

If you are able to increase your job prospects and make yourself a better potential employee by making contact with a professor at UW or getting a good internship or something like that, it would more than outweigh the increased cost in the long term.

^Very, very good points. I’m hoping to go into advertising art of sorts - using photography and graphic design to create ads and similar things for companies and such. Hopefully I would have my own photography business on the side as well. I plan on majoring in interdisciplinary visual arts with a minor in business. Not the easiest field to get into by any means (though just about anything can be a gamble in this economy I suppose), but I’ll be fine I think.

I’ll probably just go to UW (providing they don’t rescind me for my current grades, but I’d imagine they don’t like to rescind people because that’s potentially less money for them). I’ve worked hard enough in high school to the point where going to EWU kind of felt like I wasted my time, but with UW, it feels like it paid off much more.

Western is close to Vancouver BC.
A little more worldly than Spokane.

^True, but it’s over an hour away. Spokane is like 15 miles from Eastern haha.

Well, if you want to get into this kind of business, you will have to start building your portfolio while still in college. Seattle is a big city, which offers many more opportunities to start doing it and hopefully get a job upon graduation.

As it was said above, it all will repay in the future. The difference of 4.5k a year is very insignificant.
