DID ANYONE EVER NOT GET ONE AND GET IN????

how does your school calculate gpa because a 3.5 is really low on most scales

The majority of people who get in do not receive likely letters.

in state or OOS?

IS or OOS you're in.

IS you're definitely in, OOS isn't a lock though. GPA is pretty low and SAT is a little low.

uhh 3.5 uw out of 4????
isn't that like a B+?
thats not so low... nto like i'm rolling with a 2.5

yeah but most people at carolina were basically straight-A students in high school. have you researched average stats for UNC students?

Oh your GPA is fine in general, but the average GPA for incoming students at Carolina is like a 4.4 or something.

By the way, the B+ becomes a 3.3 at UNC...it sucks.

I can't answer the OP's question of not getting the likely letter, but I will tell you that DS never applied (IS) and he received the likely letter a 3 different times during his rising SR and SR yr, each right after SAT or ACT results were released. This leads me to believe that they use college board for recruitment.

That being said it seems like your IS, you have great ECS so I think you have solid chance.

I had a 3.5 in high school and got into Carolina...don't worry about the GPA. The admissions reps I talked to said that GPA doesn't really mean anything, its all relative.

Cuse, were you IS or OOS?

Yeah they don't look at the number GPA, they look at the strength of your schedule and what grades you got. But since so many schools calculate it differently, GPA is useless to them.

GPA is re-scored by every university b/c of weighting issues, they have their own formula. Other things they look at is the academic profile of the hs. How many kids go to IVY, what is the EOG/SOL scores, what is the Avg SAT, how many AP courses, Jump Start, how many kids go to 4 yr, 2 yr or trade.

I was IS, TarHeelBound. And everything that drc09 and bulletandpima has said is exactly correct. One of the admissions reps I talked to said they had a student once who applied with a GPA of like 7.9, ridiculous. UNC evaluates your courses individually and gives you their own GPA.

I know someone who had a 5.7, it was because she got the school to allow her to take AP's on-line besides the courses at school. The funny thing is she was given the 6.0 for an AP course that isn't approved as AP....AP Genetic mapping. Very few people understand that there are only a limited number of AP courses, just because someone at the curiculum dept calls it AP, doesn't mean the college board has seen it as so. I think another was AP American Indian History....coming soon...AP Basket Weaving.

To know if it is a true AP courses, you need to take the test at the end of the course that is given through College Board, and look at the school you are applying to, they will tell you the AP courses and scores you need to place out of a course.

This is why the colleges revise your gpa.
