Oh NO!

My friend sent in her common app 22 seconds past after midnight for early evaluation. Should I tell her to ask her counselor to call Wellesley admin's office?

she attends a public school by the way so her counselor isn't attentive. should I ask my counselor for her?

First, the student needs to take responsibility herself, not you. Secondly, she should call W Admissions to see if it's a problem...I'd be a bit surprised if it were. Call, speak to someone, not e-mail.

I've been bemused about the almost paralyzed reluctance of many students on CC over the past three years to pick up a telephone when it's the most direct way of having an interactive conversation.

Well, she's a bit shy with people in general and doesn't like speaking in English. She can write well, but her verbal skills are lacking...she's only been here 2 years after all. I'll tell her to call if you insist.

I don't insist on anything, it iis neither within my power nor do I have a position to do so.

But if someone can't take care of themselves on a relatively minor admissions matter, they're going to be obliterated fending themselves when they land at college, shy or not, verbal skills or not.

Somehow this subject came up when I was talking to a friend who is getting paid to file applications this Wintersession. Since it was online, it might matter, but she said the EE/RD deadline is a little fuzzy. They're still putting everyone's together, no one's really looked at them. It sounded like it might slip under the radar. Computer clocks are individually off by a minute all the time, so unless the common app has an official time, it won't be a big deal at all. Dumb question: is Ohio on EST or Central time. What about those kids in California who had better have sent it in by 9:00 at night? You are probably ok. I don't know any more than that. At the worst case, your friend won't receive a likely/possible/unlikely letter, and get the decision with everyone else with no effect on the actual outcome. That's all I know.

Ohio is EST. Thanks for responding though. My friend talked to called to make sure. :)
