Ok, thank you for taking the time to address my question. I realize that this situation is my own procastinating fault but...here it is.

I submitted my Williams and Amherst applications at 10:45 pacific time last night. Because the common app is on eastern time it says that I submitted them both on 1/2.

Should I call the admissions offices? What would I say? How do I know if it is ok?

I think they are used to time zone mixups and things like that. Besides, the first person to look at your stuff is usually an intern or a work-study kid, who might not be inclined to nit-pick. Calling attention to yourself seems like a bad idea. If there's some sort of expected postal confirmation that you do not receive, or if they tell you yours came too late, then try explaining it. For now, just relax and take a deep breath. AdComs are nicer than you think.

i have a similar question. My amherst app. had a deadline of 1/1, so I went to the airport post-office (open 24/7) to mail it yesterday (Sunday). Later i found out that Amherst means it must be mailed BY 1/1... so the postmark deadline is actually 12/31. Will they still look at my app. even though it's postmarked 1/1? thanks.

I did the same thing with the common app... it really bugs me that they don't say they use eastern time. mine was 40 minutes late. Oh well. i say... there's not much we can do now. Like megalomaniac said, why go out of your way to make it obvoius that it's late? It's not like they read them all the instant they arrive, anyway.

On a related note, does anyone know anything about pton? because the servers were down at midnight...

Trust me, you could send your app a week late, and it would still be accepted. Missing the deadline by a few hours (or a few days) is not a big deal at all. In fact, the adcoms probably are dealing with so much paper/online submissions, they probably won;t even pay attention to the time of submission.

I don't think that it will be a problem. Things get delayed even in email. Colleges don't use trivial reasons to reject candidates. If your app were months late, that would be a problem since obviously it would have arrived after decisions were made. Adcoms probably do not arrive back at work until Tues. anyway and international applications mailed by the postmarked deadline will still be arriving at at admissions offices late in next week.
