I got a recommendation from my philosophy professor and an english teacher...
but the application post on u of chicago says I have to get one from a Math/Science teacher...(the math and science teachers I like left.)

Well, they said they will start reviewing applications even with just one letter. Chances are, if one letter is going to make a difference, they'll defer you which gives you an opportunity to submit more materials (i.e. another letter) before the April decisions come out. Obviously if you get accepted it doesn't matter.

It IS possible to get a recommendation letter from a teacher who left. I would get on that right away. I would also ask a current math or science teacher to write one, in case you can't get to the former teachers.

I suspect you will be fine if that piece comes in after (but not too long after) the EA deadline.

On the other hand . . . the requirement is absolutely clear on Chicago's website and application materials, and it has been discussed in multiple threads here over the past few weeks. You really have to pay closer attention to stuff; you are not going to get a lot of sympathy for waiting until October 29 to deal with this.

My calc teacher forgot to send my letter, and I was still accepted. They sent me an email a few days after the deadline noting it hadn't been recieved, but that the Admissions Office is capable of making a decision based on only on recommendation.
