I lost it last night and there has been four transactions (all at gas stations) since then. I canceled my card, but will I get my money back?! It's a Bank of America checking card. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I love my debit card, but this is area where credit cards have an advantage over debit cards.

Contact your bank's fraud or loss management department. You may be able to fill out a form to get the charges reversed.

My S's debit card was switched in a restaurant. Both he and the other person used the card once or twice before they realized what had happened. S called the bank immediately and was able to contact the other guy. They exchanged the card and paid in cash the difference. But the bank had cancelled the card and sent S a form to be reimbursed for the unauthorized charges. He never filled it out because the 2 of them had worked it out between them.

So it is possible to be reimbursed.

I remember reading a while back about someone who had a stolen credit card, and was at a gas station, selling gas for 50 cents (or something like that) on the dollar using the credit card, in return for cash.

You need to call your bank and ask their policy. I have to pay up to 50 or 75 dollars if mine is stolen.

How soon after did you call it in? Sometimes if you call it in really soon afterwards, they don't charge you. It really depends on the bank.

I called them to let them know it was lost/stolen, and they deactivated it, but they said to call back when I see the transactions under my account, which I don't yet (I know about them because the representative told me they were there). What should I do?

Call back when you see the transactions under your account.

Since you acted quickly, I believe the worst case scenario is you pay $50 in fraud liability. Your bank may have given you $0 fraud liability, though, can you check to see if this is the case?
