Does anyone know the process by which the Ohio Academic Scholarship (through the Ohio Board of Regents) awards aid? I think i was #2 in my school, but the #1 is probably not going to an Ohio school. Does that give me the scholarship if the #1 declines?

That's the way I understood it - that if #1 declines the next in line would get it - unfortunately my daughter was #3 (#2 GPA, but apparently they use more than just GPA - it a combo of GPA, ACT and maybe #honors classes or something). But I'm no expert, so don't take my word for it - that's just the way I think it goes...

I think there are some extras that are available if you are in the top scorers/graders. DD1 got offered one today (and I think she is more like #8 in her class).

Erin's Dad,
How did she get the offer? Through school? Through a phone/email contact? We're on spring break...sure would hate to miss an opportunity...

She got the offer through the school. Just filled out the paperwork to accept.

Congrats - boy would I love to have my D return to school and that surprise!

Son received paperwork from Regents in the mail 2 days ago. To be on the safe side, check with your guidance counselor.

My D recieved hers yesterday in the mail. She is like 10th or so gpa but scored 34 highest in her class on the act! Ohio State she will attend n wondering if we can use this award against efc or they'll reajust there awards!!

Congrats to you all! I would SO be happy if this would come through for D. Sometimes I wonder if her school is on top of things to get this info and follow thru with it - grrr!

She's going to at least check with her guidance dept. on Monday - they have been off school for over a week so who knows....

Is the Ohio Academic Scholarship and the Byrd Scholarship also available to students going to private Ohio Universities?

What if our school doesn't rank?

I think both the Ohio Academic and Byrd can be used at private schools in Ohio. As I recall the Ohio Academic is for a lesser amount to a private school. I'm not sure what happens if the school doesn't rank. Check with your GC.
