Ohio State University chances

I applied back on December 1 2016, and I still haven’t heard back yet. When I contacted them, they told me I would hear back in no later than 12 weeks. Next week is week 12 of waiting, and I was wondering if waiting this long for an answer means that I have little chance.
I have a 4.50 weighted GPA, but not the best ACT score: 24. Top 5% in my graduating class, and I’m going to graduate with one of the highest honors. Only 5 others in my class are also going to be named Highest Honors. I took 4 IB 2year long classes and honors during my junior and senior years, and my school doesn’t offer AP classes.
I am currently the Student Body Vice President, and in my previous HS years I was Class VP. Other than that, I have many extracurricular activities, including playing tennis at my school.

What are my chances? It’a been so many weeks, and I’m very nervous now after waiting for so long.

I want to major in Architecture.

I know you want OSU, but did you also apply to other colleges as backup measures? Also, have you thought about Ohio University in Athens? There are several other great choices for you in OH…
You should contact OSU again this week, as they should have given you an answer.

I got accepted into University of Cincinnati, so that’s my main backup plan. I’m an out of state student, but my dad’s residency can grant me in state tuition. I also got accepted to Louisiana State University, but my top choice is OSU, so i’m hoping my stats in high school will override my low performance on the ACT.

Applying EA would have really helped your chances in this case. I think you have a good chance of getting deferred rather than outright rejected. You should try contacting OSU again and ask about your application to see if they are close to making a decision. I’m not sure when the ACT is offered, but retaking the ACT and then sending the updated score will REALLY help you if you get deferred and get a better ACT score.

@mbr1100
You want Architecture… please check if OSU requires a GPA in that major AFTER being admitted to OSU>
I know OSU requires 3.20 GAP AFTER a student is in OSU, in order to get INTO the college of Comp. Science.

High school or college GPA? @2sunny

College GPA for Computer Science (Check each specific College) to get INTO that program.
The Nursing at OSU also has specific GPA.

Also, U of Cincinnati (your other choice) has GREAT reputation for Architects.

We looked at Cinci, & they REQUIRE Co-ops to graduate from Comp. Science (if you don’t mind leaving the dorms to work)

did you find out - OSU?

@2sunny unfortunately not yet… got accepted into LSU School of Architecture recently, but hoping to hear back from OSU soon before I enroll anywhere. Hope to know what school I want before the end of the month

That’s an awfully low ACT. :frowning: Good luck - hopefully they are more holistic in their admissions reviews. You are obviously a promising student. Are you perhaps a poor test taker? My son has that issue. Regardless, I hope you will end up at a school that you love.

@GAcollegemom6 yeah I’m pretty bad with testing, but my biggest mistake was my lack of studying and decision to not retake the test. I stopped after that score, which I most deeply regret. I can’t complain about my score, because I didn’t put much effort into striving for a higher score. But I’m hoping my writing score (a score of 9 out of 12) will make up for my low score. If I don’t get into OSU, I still have 2 wonderful schools to choose from.

What were your Math and English scores on the ACT? Those are often heavily weighed in holistic admissions reviews because they are a good indicator of a student’s likelihood of success.
If those scores are strong and your science and reading are the ones pulling the composite down, you should have a better chance.

@GAcollegemom6 28 math, 30 english. Reading score was terrible, and science score was the second worst.

I’d say that ups your chances a bit. Good luck - keep us posted!!
