OK, more respected, better (safety) Col. of Charleston vs. Elon, compare

like the title, I have been arguing with one of my friends about which is a more respected school, and how the two schools compare in general, student life, academics, rigor, night life, atmosphere, etc.

I am going to major in biology if that makes a difference

Elon University = Phi Beta Kappa
College of Charleston = not

Elon is not a party school. College of Charleston has that going on to a considerable degree. Elon is private (Disciples of Christ) and CoC is state-public. Elon is small, and CoC is medium sized. CoC is in Charleston, lots of nightlife and beaches. Elon is in a small town between Greensboro and Chapel Hill. BOTH are fine schools with strong programs. It really comes down to lifestyle and the student’s discipline. I favor Elon, but its no shake on CoC.

remember, College of Charleston is a public school which means it may be cheaper especially if you are in-state. Charleston is a great city and has a great Bio program. I would vote for CofCharleston

CoC has NO football. That alone squashes it for me. LOL.

From this distance, I’d say that Elon is slightly better known. I don’t think there is a significant prestige difference outside the region.

Regarding post #3: Elon is affiliated with United Church of Christ (not Disciples of Christ). However, less than 2% of students identify themselves as UCC members according to the school’s fact book. There is a center for religious and spiritual life on campus, and a variety of organizational activities as well as events indicate that the campus is welcoming of all faiths.
