I don't really come here a lot, but whenever I do I just feel like a total loser. When I look around, I see that every single one of you guys have all A's, 4.5+ GPA's, SAT and SAT2 scores of 700-800's in each section... Are you freaking kidding me?!

Please tell me you guys are the nerds of your school, the FEW exceptionally smart students all gathered into this message board. If you guys are considered average, then I am truly screwed. There is no way I can compete with people like you when entering colleges. No freaking way.

Start you own threads and post in the forums of schools you are interested in. Nobody here rules the boards....you are just as welcome as anyone else. Why would you feel stupid just because you aren't like someone else?

What is with this term "nerd"? What do you suppose we do every day, waste our times. We are not nerds, we have great social lives, but we do realize the importance of getting into a good college. The term "nerd" is too generalized and is too negative and inaccurate; the ppl at college board simply want to make sure that they excel at what's important right now, which is school and grades (I know I sound like a Dork, but it's ok). We want to ensure our futures while we still can impact it. Nerds has nothing to do with it.

truly, the word "nerd" doesn't imply "lacking in social life".

geek=person who likes learning about one thing
nerd=person who likes learning about everything
dork=person who lacks social skills

i use the former two affectionately, the latter not at all. and yes, i consider myself a nerd of the finest variety. :)

edited to add: then there's "person who learns for the sole purpose of getting into college", commonly referred to as "prestige whore". those are dime a dozen around here.

im just wondering if so many people in this world are like u guys who get everything 800 and every AP exam 5.
then I am hopeless, and have no chance to apply ivy or UCs.

btw nerd means ppl who study really hard and who are really good at study. but it doesnt necessarily mean having no social life. one of my friend ace all his class, got 5 ap classes out of 6 and still shoot my head every time i meet him in counter strike. and he used to have couples girlfriends. btw he smokes and drinks secretly and he talk rude words all the time. if u didnt see his grade report, u must think hes a rogue

People normally think I am some dumb blonde jock or something- dont take notes in class, dont do homework, most social in class.....

Well they think that till they actually know me...Val, 4.3+ gpa, 2170, research publications, AP classes to the hizzle, but for some reason, I like acting dumb... maybe its just me???

But to answer the OPs question... CC in NO WAY represents the average person applying to colleges... For ex: average SAT at Berkley was a 1360, or UCLA with a 1350--- at CC, you would expect UCB and UCLA to be filled with 1500+ students.

Hope it helps... and also, do not be discouraged- when I came to CC, I had an SAT score of dare I say- 1690. But CC has helped me to realize that I could do better . it motivates you ..

This website attracts a disproportional amout of extremely smart people. Those concerned enough with school are more likely to devote time to researching college admissions, but that doesn't mean that others aren't welcome here. I am certainly not as smart as many people here, although I'm very strong academically. There are just some questions I can't ask people at my school without sounding pretentious. If I can't get into College X with my stats, how can they get in anywhere sort of situation. Here, I feel much better about asking those questions and getting honest opinions.
