I've been accepted to both. Both are OOS, and offering about the same in scholarships. Which one is better for pre med? By pre med, I mean:
-Clinical volunteering opportunities
-Research opportunities
-Advising
Thank you!

You may want to take this question to the Pre Med forum. Go to the page where all of the forums are listed, and scroll down to find it.

Unless you have applied for admission for second semester this year, you don’t have to decide just yet. Run the numbers again (here is a useful calculator <a href=“Award Letter Requirements - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid; ) and remember that need-based aid will not be finalized until after you file the financial aid applications early in 2015.

Many pre med students change their majors. Be sure that the place you choose has good options for you if you do that.

I’m not sure if anyone is familiar with both schools as a premed.

What is your major?

What are your stats?

My son was premed at Alabama so I can tell you about that. Bama has a good Premed Advising Office. I recommend signing up for their Listserv as soon as possible. They will regularly notify you about research opps, doctor shadowing opps, volunteering opps, scribe opps, and meetings.

Bama does do Committee Letters, and does Mock Interviews. They also arrange to have actual med school interviewers to come to campus, interview premeds, and then provide feedback.

What are you getting in scholarships from each of them?

Thank you! I’m majoring in Bio, but not because I think it gives me a better chance at getting admitted to med school. I just love bio. The amount of money is relative. I’m pretty sure Bama is a little more expensive, but gave me slightly more money. Thank you!

^^
??
I’m confused.

Have you already received a scholarship award from Alabama? If so, which merit scholarship were you given? In another thread you mention that you have an ACT 26. That score doesn’t get merit from Alabama. Or did your score increase? Or do you mean a different school? Do you mean UAB? or another school in the state?

@Sounfair
Are you applying as an incoming frosh or transfer student?

What merit scholarship were you given?

M2c
What is the difference if op gets one aid from another? As long as the residuals are the same we should evaluate the two schools as we have been asked to.

IMHO the two schools are comparable, perhaps Bama has an edge in premed.

^^^
I am only asking because I am wondering if she applied to a different school…such as UA-Birmingham, instead of UA (which is in Tuscaloosa). Some things she has said aren’t making sense, so I was checking to see if maybe she had applied to UAB instead.

But, perhaps she is using a military dependent award, which would make sense.

Yes, military dependent award. Sorry, I should’ve mentioned that. Thank you again!
