Omg I Reaaaaaallly Wanna Go To Stanford!

Hey guys, I really wanna go to stanford...i'm only a junior so i haven't gotten to all of the testing stuff yet... but here's what i've done....

PSAT's- 191
ACT- 33

What are my chances for Stanford.... i have and am taking the hardest curriculum my school offers... and i expect my gpa to be around in the 3.6 range..... i do a lot of EC's and i have a job...
i want to go to stanford really bad... but what do u think my chances are??

Thanks!

Can you give PSAT subscores?

um..... 56 V (lol i kno it's bad) 70 M 65 W ..... yea they aren't that great...

3.6 is pretty low..

yea i realize... but that's because i take all the hard classes and i go to a very hard private school... so i'm sure that it could be accounted for

and stanford said on their admissions website that it's recommended that applicants have at least a 3.5 so....

Um...IMO you need atleast a 3.9, but it can be done with a lower one. What is it...like 60 percent of admits have 4.0 UW.

yea something like that... i wish our school would weight.... my GPA would rock the house... since i take all adv. and AP's

All stanford applicants rock the house on weighted GPA. The average weigted is probably above 4.4 for admits.

Your ACT score is good. Does your school not do a weighted grade system, or is that 3.6 weighted.

-Jerod

3.6 is unweighted... if they gave like a .33 for every adv./AP class i've taken... like most schools around mine.... i would have like a 4.5 i really wish they would

Yeah, I know how that goes. We get zero extra points for taking AP Classes.

-Jerod

yeah, stanford will see that you have taken hard courses...but so has everyone and stanford admits usually still have a 4.0 or above 3.9. Your ACT is very good...actually the same as mine. Definitely good enough. Just remember you still have a great shot if you write your essays really well. I recommend that you start thinking about them at the end of this summer.

i used to be like you once b4 i applied EA, don't waste your money, i know this sounds discouraging and ****, but i highly recommend applying to lower level schools. Unless you got some extreme ECs. i.e like discovering the perfect panacea.
but yeah, don't waste $

I woudln't discourage him. You only get one shot, so you might as well take it.

-Jerod

"All stanford applicants rock the house on weighted GPA. The average weigted is probably above 4.4 for admits."

Not all Stanford kids rock the house on weighted GPA. My weighted GPA was a 4.1 and unweighted was a 4.0. So there's hope of being admitted even if you are below Stanford's average. Maybe I got in because people like me are rare. I'm Korean and I'm NOT a die-hard Christian. I may just be the only Korean atheist out there. :)

i don't mean to rain on your parade - actually maybe i do, because this news ruined my day - but i know this guy and he didn't get into stanford. he's president of NHS, like genius at math and science stuff (has exhausted every science course at our school and excelled in them)(no, really, like hard core genius - like for some practice oral in english on a topic of our choice freshman year he talked about the shape of the universe for like 20 minutes and i actually understood), does forensics and i think has a job; i don't know his exact gpa, bt he was definitely like top 5% of our class of 400something and took/is taking full IB diploma courses; high 1400something SATs. Wrote his essay on being an iranian refugee in syria or someplace (four kinds of true, by the way), is obviously persian and speaks farsi at home. if you talk to him hes freaking AMAZING. and he can write, tho i didn't read his essay... anyway yeah, he dreamed about stanford since he was like three. and didn't get in early decision. like flat out rejected, not even deferred. so i'm scared for my life. because there obviously is no god.

his weighted gpa was like 4.6
i think his act was a 32

SCEA, you mean, courtette. :).. Not early decision.

Try for it. Are there any experiences as a Korean that make you unique? I'm a second-generation Korean-American myself, so...

Could you elaborate further on your current circumstances?

well i mean i was adopted from korea when i was like 6 months.... so in that respect i guess i'm unique.... wow courtette... that's crazy! i'm really sry to hear that....
