platypodes, CC or SEAS?

got it a while ago. SEAS

Yay, congrats to everyone who got a likely letter! :)

Can you post your stats please? Thanks!

pigs…are you going to Columbia for sure? If you are, that’s pretty awesome you’ve already found out

so from all of these are any CC or just SEAS?

platypodes, regular mail or email ?

ylmc123, several posters have stated that their letters are from CC.

2-3 from CC so far, the rest from SEAS.

Sadly.

does anybody know whether it would be particularly beneficial (or detrimental) to tell schools like MIT/Harvard/Princeton that I got a likely letter from Fu Foundation (Columbia) SEAS in my midyear report?

You might want to inform them that Columbia SEAS took you but you’re still willing to choose their school over Columbia.

i think someone already mentioned this, but can those with LL’s please post stats?

SAT I: 800 (M) 800 (W) 760 (CR) (one sitting) 2390 (superscore)

Rank: 2/352
GPA: 3.93/4.00 (Unweighted)

APs: USH, Microecon, Macroecon, Eng Lang/Comp (11) - 5s. Taking 6 classes/7 exams this year - Phys C (Mech and E&M), Chem, Calc BC, Psych, US gov/pol, English Lit.

Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: Male
State: NJ
School: Public (sends very few kids to top schools)

Major ECs: Indian classical vocalist-- winner of both tristate and national competitions; perform concerts in South India every December and learn from musicologists in India as well;; NJ Governor’s School in the Sciences;; Math Team (Prez and Captain-- 1st place/perfect score individual NJ Shore Math League);; Science Team (Captain) - Couple of unimportant regional awards;; Chess Team - 3rd Board - 5th Place Team Finish in NJ Shore League;; Academic Team- Captain of the Challenge team;; the rest of my ECs are pretty insignificant. they kinda just took up empty space on my application.

Looking back on everything, I think I could have done a few more meaningful activities/ECs. An internship or a science program, aside from Gov School, might have amplified my resume too. Oh well, I still somehow got the likely letter from FF SEAS!

thanks for the advice, ExhibitA!

i have to diagree with exhibit - i think it makes you come across as a bit desperate for their attention when in reality there is not much you can do to alter their minds. they will take you if they want to take you. and frankly if columbia is likely-ing you it is because they think you are a pretty stellar candidate, other schools might see that too.

lastly, i think you come across as kind of insulting columbia here. and being pretty disrespectful to fellow students. a likely from columbia shouldn’t be treated as a bargaining chip. if you really want to attend another school, you shouldn’t take advantage of columbia’s interest in you in the process. basically columbia wants to say they really like you, that you would be an ideal student for their academic culture. take this time to get to know columbia, fall in love with it more, and maybe regardless of what those other schools say you might want to attend.

Anyone know when Days on Campus is this year? Did the letters say?

admissionsgeek,

you are probably right. i feel so terrible. i was so ecstatic upon receiving the columbia likely because i love columbia. i just got a bit greedy and complacent. i would be more than content with columbia’s stellar engineering school.

^yes, humans are so greedy! we want more and more when others don’t have anything
I columbia SEAS '14! woot woot!

nice scores feynmanfan!

I just received this huge packet of information TODAY from Columbia. It had all this SEAS information and a letter stating that they wanted to send me more information as a likely candidate.

^me too! I love how there’s a donation envelope LOL
$1000 and below can only classify you as a “donor” shucks

I didnt get a donation envelope in my package…
