Columbia is need-blind to Canadians. But I was dumb enough to fax my financial forms to the ADMISSIONS office. So they probably know I’m applying for aid now…

They know you are from the fact that you said you were on your application. Need-blind means that they don’t know how much you’ll be getting I believe.

^ No, need-blind means that they never even look at the part of your application where you check “Yes I need finaid” or “No I don’t need to apply for finaid”. They treat each application the same, regardless of money.
Er… maybe that’s what you meant… if so, sorry xP

Did anyone get a LL, but is not URM?

yes, because asians are URMs too…

a couple of the posters were caucasian

I’m not URM.

Obstinate- either way, they even know how much I’m going to need now.

Not if you’re Canadian.

How does a Columbia likely bode for Harvard, Yale, and Princeton? That is, besides validating that I have a chance, do Columbia’s preferences fall closer in line with any of the three?

I don’t think “need-blind” necessarily means that they do not know whether you need aid; they can still exercise need-blind admissions knowing that you need a full-ride.

does anyone know what the process of waitlisting is like? i’m an international and don’t really know how it works…(i have looked for threads telling me and they haven’t been very helpful btw)…

for example, is there a deadline? if so, when?
also, should you send them extra stuff, or just hope for the best?

Asians are ORMs? I got one as an Asian.

Yep, Asian and LL for me too. We’re not URM at all…

I’d just like to add that I received a likely letter around March 11. I’m also Native American…

Obstinate - What I’m trying to say is that, even though Columbia is need-blind for Canadians, since I accidentally sent my tax returns to the Admissions Office (not the financial aid office) I’m thinking admissions officers may now know that I’m applying for aid AND how much I’m going need.

What was your gpa and sat scores?

powerbomb: I think you might be over-thinking this. Since Columbia is need-blind for Canadians, whether or not you need aid and how much you’ll need have absolutely no bearing on your decision. Should you be rejected, it will be because your application just wasn’t strong enough. Anyway, I hardly think admissions officers are the ones who open the mail and sort through the documents. They have staff for that who, if common sense prevails, will probably redirect whatever financial stuff you sent to the financial aid office.

kthanksbye - I hope so.

Another question - For the favorite books, shows, etc short questions, did you all just list them or did you write it in paragraph form?

Just listed them. Also, my “why Columbia” answer was one line long. And didn’t actually answer the “why” part. Beats me how I got a likely. :P
