i think i’ve already admitted this earlier but…
i, pigs, am a prestige whore. :(

oh pigs, well, i’ll go toe to toe with whatever prestige baiting you got - feel free to PM me. i know yale well, and i like it as a school. but i think columbia has something very special that outstrips e’ry school out there.

Congrats, pigs! That’s really great.

One question, though (for anyone who knows): what’s the point of sending likely letters out to people after they applied? I understand why they go to athletes, etc. BEFORE application deadlines (to make sure they know they can have a place and therefore apply), but why send a likely letter to someone who is already applied and done? Obviously it’s great for the applicant, but what’s the college gaining from letting them know before March?

it keeps yield rates high (and i can definitely see why as i’m ready to accept the offer right now!!!)

Well, if you’re going for prestige, Columbia is definitely more prestigious in engineering.
Maybe I’m biased because I already know how great NYC is, but I found Columbia so much nicer than Yale [at least the engineering buildings - yale’s looked yucky ]

congrats on the likely!

Pigs, when did you send out your app? Any word on if Columbia College is also sending out likelies?

i sent it out after i learned that i got deferred by yale

thread has 1315 views…dAAAng lawl

I glanced through the thread but didnt see anyone mention this:

Unless the policy has changed in the past 3 years, I dont think the college sends out likely letters. Just engineering.

Wasn’t some woman murdered at Yale and then hidden in the walls of the engineering building at Yale? Or was it in the science building?

Pigs, I like how I poked fun at you for not having safeties and now you can use Columbia as a safety, haha

perfect reason to not go to yale! haha

The “policy” is indeed outdated Skraylor. Some CC kids last year got likelies.

congratulations pig hope to see you next year!

Congrats, likely letter recipients! Pigs, given that you will be spending four years of your young life in college, I heartily encourage you to spend some quality time on the campuses of the universities where you are accepted, before you prioritize your choices. My Columbia son thought MIT and Harvard were somewhat dreary (as a former Harvard student, I immediately understood), liked Yale, but loved Columbia. Personally, I liked Yale (due probably to the fact that the tour guide was cute; when I suggested the attraction of Yale, he quickly noted “Dad, you just thought the tour guide was cute”–GUILTY), but when I saw his face light up at Columbia, I knew what his first choice would be.

Great job.
Were likely letters only sent out to engineering applicants? Or to applicants of the regular college as well?

i’m grinning at this :D

I received a likely letter from the College last year.

Congratulations, pigs! Oh and Columbia > HYPM (put together). Just keeping it real!

Definitely true.

WOW! I got one too! I applied to Engineering and submitted early November. I thought it was a mistake at first since likely letters showed up in February last year, but then I saw this thread! I was going to post yesterday, but the activation email for CollegeConfidential didn’t get to me until today.

By the way, kthanksbye and Obstinate, what are your reasons for what you say?
