OMG! Room Reservation: HILC 8241-1

What does it say? HILC stands for Holland International Living Center? What do you guys know about it? Tell me anything that is related.

Thanks!

PS: Oh, and is it single or double?

They put a guy from Mongolia in the Holland International Living Center...?

I had heard Cornell housing wasn't too bright at assigning rooms...but...wow..

are you serious?

The building is named after Jerome Holland. The HILC is a residence for all international students who might choose to live there.

Tsenguun: If this is your academic year room assignment, you should see a roommate listed if the room is a double.

I wish the Holland International Living Center had something to do with Dutch culture...

Ha, I didn't know dew...geeze. It's a pretty logical conclusion that "Holland International" would seem like a dorm for people from..Holland..lol.

DaFunk: Don't sweat it. You will be in Ithaca, New York. The whole city is a celebration of "Dutch culture". I advocate bringing a hookah to school and setting up shop on one of the North Campus quads. When I was a student there was even a Hookah Society.

Oh, but I don't see any name listed below it. Does it mean I was assigned into a single room? Well, I was considering a single before, but I decided to give a shot at something new like living with a roommate.

How can I change it? Anyone has any opinion on it?

I think single and doubles have their own benefits and drawbacks. I say you stick with the single and when your arrive on campus just leave your door open when you're home....you'd be surprised how people will randomly stop by to say hi!

Well, yeah, but the thing is I promised to room with him. He (Turkish guy) first told me that he wanted to room with a Mongolian, because Turkish and Mongolia do have the same descendants, and said like we are brothers. In the meantime, another international was also sending him a roommate request. He then asked if I wanted to room with him, he would deny that request and room with me.

We did as we talked. But unfortunately, it looks like Cornell didn't let us be roommates. I just want to keep my promise, and am actually looking forward to staying with him. If anything goes wrong, I will just seek for a single or just someone.

well...if that's the case you should call the housing office and see if they can do something.

haha my spoken English sucks badly. How about e-mailing them?

PS: And it costs too much to call from here.

e-mailing works too

might want to work on your spoken english though :-)

hope you can work out the roomie situation!

OK, thank dew. You were so helpful!

HILC is in a low-rise, so Low Rise 8, level 2, suit 4, room 1, I'm not 100% but that's pretty close to what the numbers mean. Seeing you have a dash at the end means you'll probably have a roommate. But since it's a suit style living you'll have a lot of suite-mates which end up just like roommates.

The first room of the suites in lowrises is usually a double (unless they make it into a triple).

OMG! Triple? If so, that is too bad!!!

what is suit style? sorry if i am asking so simple question.

3 different bedrooms branching out from the same common area, sharing one bathroom.

is that cool? that bathroom is just for us three, right?

The bathroom is shared by all in the suite.

It's a decent size one. I once spent the weekend with a friend who lived in low rise 6 and I was impressed with the size.
