I had an on-campus interview at Yale in August and I am applying there SCEA. I have not been notified about an alumni interview. If I had an on-campus interview, will I not receive an alumni interview? When are the interview reports due by? And how would an interviewer notify me (email, phone call)?

my son had an on campus interview and also had an alumni interview. We live in an area with a large population of Yale alums so I think that is a factor. As it turned out, his off campus interviewer was kind of a jerk and he had a great on campus one. So if you already had one on campus, I wouldn’t sweat it.

To add a belated comment, as a long-time interviewer, I would say that the only way having the on-campus interview would mean no alumni interviewer when you otherwise would get one would be if the region was really strapped for interviewers. It’s true that occasionally someone who interviewed on campus will decline an alumni interview, but that’s rare.

If you are in an area in which you’d expect an active alumni interviewing network, a more likely reason for not getting contacted is a snafu with the interviewing process … someone was supposed to contact you and dropped the ball. This happens, and it’s usually not until close to or after the deadline that anyone even realizes it.

One of the few things the local alumni schools director knows about you is whether you had an on-campus interview. If he/she does not have enough interviewers to cover the applicants identified by the admissions office, then he/she may not forward your name to an interviewer until the other students are interviewed once.

In the metro NYC area, there are a number of alumni schools directors likely supervising even fractions of NYC boroughs. They will not all have the same success getting everyone interviewed since even an area with a lot of alums may not have a lot of interviewing alums or may be outnumbered by the relatively larger number of applicants.

yeah exactly my point with the volume - but yeah that whole fractioning of the entire LI area scares me a bit - more competitive but also more acceptances.

I guess we’ll find out in a few days now, thanks for the information.
