on-grounds parking for upperclassmen

well, i think some of us made it clear earlier that you should live at uva for a year without a car as part of your first year experience. plus you should respect the honor code enough to not drive your car for a year. if you have issues with the honor code, you can bring your car and join hoos against single sanction or whatever.

yeah cars are absolutely not a necessity at UVa, first year or otherwise. yes i enjoyed having my car second year, but it almost was a nuisanse as much as a help.

hazel... you wanna talk single sanction? let's go

I agree with hazelorb. There's no need for a car first year, and UVA does this to try to keep first years on grounds as much as possible to make the most of your first year experience. I'm taking mine for second year only because i'm only 2 hours away and would like to be able to get home in case of an emergency and have the convenience of being able to tote myself home/back to school during breaks whenever I want, instead of relying on someone else's schedule. Other than that, I plan to let it just sit in a lot somewhere, other than maybe going to harris teeter once in awhile, but my apartment mates and I plan to all go together and 'carpool'.

no i dont wanna argue w anyone, if i did i could do that at uva just fine, but i heartily support it. no hijacking the thread for honor debates. :P

Hazel, I waited an entire day before I responded to your post. It is my considered opinion that ppl posting on a board should conduct themselves as if they were speaking face to face. Apparently you don't subscribe to that same philosophy. Who is the "some of us" you mentioned? YOU? As in the royal WE? Where I come from there is a saying "Who died and left you boss"? Any particular reason you decided to disregard the word "legit" in my post? It was there for a reason I included that word. Any particular reason you felt entitled to disregard it?

You might be interested to know that not everyone is in a position to enjoy "the first year experience". Things like helping out at home with a students only surviving parent, making drapes in the basement so they can pay the bills might get in the way of frat parties and other similar "experiences". I was asking (looking for guidance) on behalf of girl who experiences this reality, not life according to you!

Get over yourself. Personally I am sick of reading your pious posts on what should and should not be posted on CC. Hazel doesn't like chances threads. Hazel thinks ppl should do there own searching, Hazel doesn't think a thread should be hijacked by an ancillary topic. News flash: Folks come here for information not a diatribe on life according to you.

As I said, I truly believe a sense of decorum should be observed on boards such as CC. But since you can't read and feel entitled to be so judgmental I am happy to respond in kind. From now on I will. Game on.

Grow up.

To the rest of the board, I apologize for this unbecoming display.

Oh geez, lighten up. I don't believe in first years having cars either. It is against UVA's honor code, regardless.

However, there are a million places you could park your car. You could try to buy someone's space on a street or behind an apartment complex. You could also park in some of the free spaces/lots near the corner. Or, you could just swindle an upperclassman without a car into buying a parking pass for you.

Okay, people breathe.

First years having a car is NOT an honor violation as it does not pertain to lying, cheating, nor stealing. It is an unenforced rule to scare away first year from making up more traffic. The only place one could park would be the parking lot by their dorms or U Hall. Seeing as New Dorms has no parking and more convenient parking places are tow enforce for most of the weekday, many first years I knew had to keep moving their cars to different spots every day except for the weekends. Shoebox's ideas can work, but the chances of upperclassman selling parking passes are slim to none with worse odds on good locations. A first year would find a S4 Faulkner parking pass useless.

I'm just happy the only thing I have to worry about getting from Parking and Transportation is a residence pass so I can drive through human traffic to get to my house on game days. Can't wait for the tailgates, though.

Eh, true. (By the way, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it would be treated as a honor code violation... I'll try to do some searching to find it). And I agree with Malex, it's a big hassle to move it around. Look into the HomeRide service if you need to be going to Richmond/Norfolk/DC area, or greyhound. My guess is that in the end, those methods would be an easier/more convenient/cheaper method of getting home.

After reading Vistany's post. The only thing I could do was say 'diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss"

-.-;; (10 chrs)

wfc.......

me no get post

I'm lost too.

vistany posted about hazelorb's...demeanor in this thread and the board itself, and she is quite abashed by the blow. The semicolon sweatdrops speak for themselves.

semicolon sweatdrops? que?

lol malex

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNfeZoX8-fY%5B/url%5D">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNfeZoX8-fY</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nnM1QJ9_5c%5B/url%5D">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nnM1QJ9_5c</a></p>

i think my sweatdrops are more of the 2nd example i uploaded but the 1st is still funny. everyone on this board (obv myself included) gets upset over the stupidest things and its pretty funny when you stand back and look at it.

so there are two types of sweatdrops btw:

-.-;; is when you are sweatdropping over someone else's words/actions
^.^;; is self-sweatdropping

now me being able to upload 2 good examples of sweatdropping in bssm (these are videos i have lying around, not even ones i had to crop or anything, AND i can tell you exactly which episodes they came from) would deserve a ^.^;;

cute.......

haha. I haven't watched sailor moon in ages. I used to read the manga too. back in the day.

ive never seen semi-colin sweatdops b4

my roommate and i for next year began plotting the sailor moon decoration theme for our room a few weeks ago actually. yay wallscrolls and action figures!! now if only she can find her moon wand...

btw not all brownies are as dorky as we are, she's the president of the sci fi club and as you all know im in the anime club, treasurer now actually. good pairing huh.

so steering this back the way it was originally headed, what exactly do we do with our cars until we get a permit??
