On Hold Experiences

Has any one been rejected from unifieds yet?

My D auditioned on the first audition day, Friday December 2, and was told that she’d likely hear something a week later (by the following Friday). After 10 days she still hadn’t heard anything but was aware that others had, so she called and asked. They said was on hold, and an email from Aubrey Berg came a few days later.

I’m not sure there is a tremendous amount of predictability within any of these schools on how they handle acceptance/rejection/hold/waitlist notifications, so my advice would be when in doubt, just call and ask whatever it is you’re trying to figure out. They hear from students and parents all the time and our experience across several schools – certainly including CCM – is that they are more than happy to answer your questions.

My son is a Freshman @CCM now. Here was his timeline:

He was still receiving offers from his other schools even after his acceptance to CCM.

CCM was the most efficient in the audition/acceptance process other than the schools that accepted him on-the-spot at auditions.

This year may be a bit more delayed. Mr. Berg was not at auditions so he will review each videoed audition with more scrutiny, however, the hear-say is that they had a few less auditions this year (reportedly 650+.)

My son’s class has 10 men and 8 women. The “hold” list is for those who are not accepted “on-the-spot” @auditions. They will make offers to those students and then compile a “wait-list” if there are still slots open in the class after the acceptances have shaken-out. CCM is not always the first choice of some students and finances can be an issue.

Good Luck.

For what it’s worth, my son auditioned Dec 2, was put on hold Dec 28, and accepted into CCM’s program Feb 2. I doubt you will have to wait that long though because I think they will try to round out their program by mid-March.

Did your son have any luck with scholarships from CCM?

There was nothing in the acceptance email about scholarship.

My daughter was on essentially the same time schedule as jdm7194’s son. Auditioned on December 2nd, on hold sometime thereafter and accepted on February 2nd. There was no information in the acceptance email about scholarship/grant money, but i seem to recall from one of the meetings for parents on the day of the audition that we might not receive that information until late March or early April. Given the importance, I’m hopeful maybe there will be some preliminary information before then.

ManVan – did the post-acceptance on campus begging bear fruit? Hoping not to have to make that journey.

I auditioned Dec 3rd…was put on hold Dec 28th…and got an acceptance email Feb 2nd…they only accepted a few just before they left for unifieds because obviously there is A LOT of talent still to be seen before unis…and I know people that were put on hold weeks before I was. And I also know someone who as rejected weeks before me as well. I am a transfer coming into the class of 2016. Last year I auditioned at unis (Chicago) and got put on hold 2 days after my audition…I didn’t find out until May 5th that I was rejected. So those of you still on hold…just try to stick it out. And try NOT to think about it everyday like I did last year… And remember!!! if you don’t get accepted…that doesn’t mean you’re not talented. Just means you were meant to go somewhere else…it may also mean that you’ll keep working on your craft and be back to audition early next year if CCM is really what you want.

I wish all you holdees luck!!! and I look forward to being in the same class with all you talented Musical Theatre bums!!!:)

-Kameron

I have no official info on finances at CCM other than our own experience.

It does seem that they may have a “plan” and are committed to sticking to that plan (as all fiscally-minded institutions do.)

We had not visited the school, so while my son was in the classes I thought I would go beg for some additional money (they can’t say “yes” if you don’t ask.)

I will say that CCM’s up-front tuition cost is less than other combarable schools.

You can also apply at the University level for “need” awards and “work-study.”

Good Luck.

Just want to clarify that I don’t think CCM accepts anyone “on the spot” - in years past, they used to offer some acceptances the Monday after auditions, But they seem to be taking more time to decide these days. Last year the soonest acceptance was a week or so after the audition. Just don’t want auditionees to think that there is a chance they might get accepted right away - and to be disappointed if they aren’t! But I agree - the “on hold” waiting is excruciating - especially for those who auditioned in early December - I can relate as we went through it last year…

And as far as money - I agree with ManVan that the upfront tuition is relatively reasonable. A good thing since they are not generous at all, unfortunately, with Financial Aid. There are the Cincinnatus scholarships (merit based) and some very limited departmental money.

Hope those of you still waiting get good news soon!

I am on hold for ccm also. I have one other friend that was put on hold as well. We both auditioned in chicago. Do you think Aubrey saw the audition videos before we were put on hold or did he still have to watch them?

Not trying to whine…but this waiting is torture. Lol I’m praying we all hear back this week. :)

Oh and daisyresistance I’m pretty sure he has to watch them still!

It really is torture… I tell myself I’m going to stop thinking about it but I can’t! Do you think we will only get an email if we are accepted? I wonder how many people they put on hold…

called ccm admissions today asking when i’d find out their decision, and the woman on the line said that they were making their decisions today, so we should all find out sometime in the next couple days - hopefully that was the truth!

Did she say whether they would be calling, emailing or snail mailing? Sometimes it changes from year to year.

not sure, all she said is that we should be hearing back shortly!

Oh, thats weird… I called today and the lady said that we would probably hear back mid-march. but if they made their decisions yesterday, i don’t know if that makes much sense…

yeah, it seems to me like they’re telling everyone different things, so i don’t even know what to believe anymore, haha!

Has anyone heard anything further? I know one of my friends got a rejection letter today but I’ve been on hold for a while. Ahhhhh waiting
