I was wondering how much one final grade of a B in 11th grade would hurt chances for top colleges. I have received all A's throughout high school so far in the most rigorous classes my school offered. However, this year it looks I will get a B in Spanish. Will this have any real effect. I'm not trying to troll I'm just wondering how much a B hurts chances...Not at all? Slightly? A lot?
Thanks!

It hurts. You’ll live. End of story.

Now for more detailed answers, go through a few pages of HSL. You’ll find probably 10-15 threads were there are VERY detailed answers about this.

Commit suicide. You’re clearly a failure and, should you opt to not commit suicide (which you really ought to) you will undoubtedly spend the rest of your life sorting pickles for McDonalds.

You’re not even good enough to flip burgers.

(I’m guessing you’re not ■■■■■■■■, since your other posts seem quite honest…)

Unless you want to major in Spanish/Romance Languages/Something of the sort, you’ll be fine.

If you don’t have Straight A’s, colleges will think you could’ve done more. If you DO have straight A’s, they’ll think you did nothing but study. Honestly, they’re really never fully happy with anybody.

At least it was Spanish, and not something more crucial (Wanna be a science major and got a C or a D in every Chem course you took? Ouch, don’t think that’s going to help…). However, if you do have straight A’s in all your other classes, they’ll overlook one single B.

You’re fine.

I would not even begin to worry about one B amidst a transcript of only A’s.

Pretty sure you’re screwed for life.

Letting you know one of my friends with a 4.0 and a 2390 sat (2nd attempt) + 4 years of varsity soccer was rejected from Georgetown so far. Why she got rejected? Beats me but I sure do feel bad about it.

^ jebus, what is good enough these days? It’s almost as if you have to hide the fact that you care a lot about your future. Having a zealous work ethic and devoting hours to your studies is almost counterproductive nowadays.

To the OP: Don’t worry about it. Nothing you can do about it now. But either way, only getting one B is great (despite the average CCer with 59 APs and straight As, along with awards and trophies)

@ Platts: you are hilarious

You’ll be fine, kid.

I imagine it depends on how much that B affects your rank. At my school, depending on how advanced your classes are, that B may affect your rank by 5-10 places out of 450, more so if a bunch of people are tied for spots (my bf’s rank was 45 because 24 people were tied for 21).
