One bad final average

I could not decide between a few sections on where this would better fit, however a few searches showed me that there were a few topics like this in the past. So I decided on this section.

My problem is, my final average for my Pre-Calc class was a C. Both my term grades were B's. I did poorly on my final exam due to the fact I had issues concentrating due to a recent ear infection which had gotten into a bad state. My doctor had made me take off some time Tuesday, however I wanted to get my exams over with and went in Wednesday and Thursday to complete them. While it was not indeed my best choice, I still did extremely well on my AP French exam, My US History Honors exam, and my Chemistry exam. However I did very poorly on my Pre-Calc Honors exam resulting in a 74.21% as my final average.

My question is, how bad will this look when I come apply to my colleges of choice? At the moment I have not decided on some colleges, as I am still thinking about which field I would like to take. I am looking at Law, Computer Programming, and Theater Technical. All my grades I've ever received have been A's and B's.

As well though, since it was an Honors class, when my gpa is calculated I am given 10 extra points onto the course. So when my GPA is calculated it looks like a 84.21%.

Should I try to convince my counselor to let me re-take the class? Should I try to spend my whole senior year trying my hardest in AP Calc? Or should I just go with Statistics?

I have never gotten a C before, I've never been willing to let my grades go so low. I know C is supposed to be "Average", but I just never wanted to be at that state. And I know my parents, although they were straight C students themselves, want me to be A's and B's.

Also, I have not yet taken my SAT (I will be very soon).

Thank you for your time in reading and responding.

Most applications have some sort of supplement (or you can submit additional essay) where you can explain your condition.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much (Not much you can do), but as long as your current grades are fine, you’ll be fine. I would definitely strive for some As just to show that you can recover from a bad average, because if I were in your position, I’d let it go and just try to make it up.

Given that you did well in your other exams, you don’t have a real excuse. Anyways, one C, though it may raise a flag compared to your other grades, should not inhibit you much at all from achieving your career goals. Though it may be tougher for you to get into some schools, if you know what you want to do, you’ll find a way in college. No use in re-taking the course though, just make sure you do well in your other classes and take calc.
