How would this senior grade look?

ok i get all A-/A's in my class i have gotten only 1 B+ in my freshman year. And, around 8 or so A-'s.

My GPA Is a 4.1W. I took 3 AP classes last year, and got 3 A-'s. Took

Honors Precalc A/A
HOnors Physics A/A
AP Statistics A/A
French 5,6 A-/A
AP US HIs A-/A
AP English A-/A

this year im taking calculus at the university and i am having trouble with the class. I do all of my homework and everything, but i have a C+ in the class, and i just took a test on derivatives and im pretty sure i got D or lower. I am trying to apply to some competitive schools, and a C or D and probably even B would be a disaster for my application since my SAT's are around 2200 and i dont have that strong EC's. If i dont have my grades i have nothing on the other students who get perfect A's and everything. agree? i.e Stanford/Chicago/Rice/Princeton/harvard/Washington St louis/Duke

I have the option of dropping the class and just taking regular calculus at the highschool and starting over with a fresh grade. Or should i continue the class and hope for the best. I dont know if he curves or not. But, im really disappointed in the fact that im doing all my work and still getting bad grades. I just feel so upset and i needed to vent for a bit.

bump......

I don't know how the grade will look. However, there's still time in the semester to raise your grades. If you can't use the professor's office hours due to your h.s. schedule, e-mail or call the professor to get study tips.

oh and... assuming i get perfect on the rest of tests/quizzes/labs/final ... which is HIGHLY unlikely I'll end up with an 90.1%. The class is curved, but i dont know by how much. I am going to email the professor and ask.

I do not think you should ask the professor about the curve. You should be focussed on how you could do better generally in the class, not on how you can get to a 90.1.

but it wouldn't hurt to have an idea of the curve anyway. you shouldn't use an easy curve as a reason not to study as much, but it does help to know.

You sound exactly like my son. He has a D+ in there right now. His college counselor still thinks he should stay in the class and try for a C or C+. The teacher said there is no way he can bring it up to even a B-. I am still not convinced. Any other opinions???

what would look better?

a "A" in High school Calculus AB

or a "B" at the local University (not community college)

I'd say A in HS Calc AB.

guess ill have to drop the class and take the easy "A" in HS then... i really dont want to drop it because i feel like im learning much more here. :(

Don't make a decision based on what I said! Get some more opinions but ultimately decide for yourself and do what YOU want to do, not just what a college would want you to do.

its gonna look bad.. i mean seriously I cant say that a D is a good sign...

hey i'm actually in the same situation. if you drop the class &it shows on your CC transcript will that count against you cause you dropped it?

What university is it?

what's the difference between calc at your hs and calc at the university?

how much harder is it? do colleges KNOW this difference?

College adcoms are supposed to know everything regarding possible courseloads, but in case they don't know the difference, you should probably just go back to regular hs Calc AB.

Univeristy of Michigan at Dearborn

Couldn't you just drop the class and not send the Umich transcript to the colleges you're applying to?

yes ^^^^^^^
