I had a horrible semester in my sophomore year.. With many Cs, and a few Ds and Fs..

Even though that happend, I still managed to get good grades all other years and am probably gonna end up with:

Unweighted GPA = 3.325
Weighted GPA = 4.25

Class Rank = Top 20% (Very Competitive School)

Will my good performance in all other semesters cover-up my flaw?

I really had trouble with my work habits when I first joined AP.. and English is my 2nd language..

I recieved good scores on all of my AP Exams and SAT IIs.

And I am probably going to be National AP Scholar and will likely get the SAT in the high 1300s, low 1400s.

My ECs are decent..

Are my chances to get into UNC-Chapel Hill from instate gone?
Or do I still have a very good chance??

Please Tell me..

Is there anything I can do to improve my chances??

p\/\/||3[)

Actually, I have no clue how colleges would react to this. It would be a topic to DEF talk about in your interview. Explain why. And maybe write your essay (if topic applies) about this seemingly troubled tiem in your life.

UNC-Chapel Hill has no interviews..
Yes, I am going to address the issue in the essay..

But I need advice on the situation from someone more experienced..

Depends on ur ECs. outstanding, you have a shot...if mediocre, i don't think you're in...

Rate my ECs:

-Math Club (president)
-Science Club (member)
-Chess Club (member)
-Volunteer Club (member)
-Trivia Club (member)

-Web Designer and Administrator for Elementary School
-Help Freshmen at my High School.

-Tutor Math, Science, and Spanish...
-Compete in Math Competitions
(Qualified for AMC 12)

-Play Soccer for School Team...

mediocre but solid

wat ECs are considered outstanding???

do i have a chance w/ my current ECs?

Would the outstanding AP and SAT II scores help cover-up the 2 Fs?

I think you actually have somewhat of a shot with ur current ECs...

The scores might help, but only if essentially all the APs are fives and SATIIs are above 700. what are your "outstanding" scores?

all APs are 5s..
All SAT IIs are 700+ except for Bio M (670) which I am retaking soon!!

Then i say you have a shot :)
refreshing to see somewhere here who gets all 5s. none of this "mostly fives and some threes and a four" business

by saying shot, wat do u mean??

far reach?
reach?
match?
good match?
safe/match?
safety?

in percentage of chance, wat do u think it would be...

00%
25%
50%
75%
100%

65% lol...that's my honest opinion...someone else help out here?

I think you are okay for Chapel Hill...dunno how the F will look. It might be a reach, but an attainable one, if that makes sense.

65% is pretty good...

would NC State be safety??

Any chance you could come up w/ a killer explanation for those killer grades? I'm not saying to lie, but do you have a good reason. Those grades are your main trouble spot & if you could explain it off you should be fine I think.

But I think you need to address it somehow, even w/ your good scores. (I think sometimes they look at bad grades + good scores = slacker) =/

heres my explanation:

-english is 2nd language
-had ADD at that time
-just joined ap.. needed to get study skills..
-needed time to improve my writing skills needed to improve

-overcame challanges, gained skills, improved grades
-had high scores in the tests for subjects by end of year

GOOD EXPLANATION?
