One Bad Semester

So my semester 1 grades during sophomore year were lower than any of my other semesters. I got a 3.8 weighted and I took 2 AP classes. I got a B in one of the AP classes and a C in a regular class. I had straight A’s my freshman year, and have A’s in all my classes right now (I’m a junior). I know that colleges pay particular attention to the 10-12th grade GPAs and I have my eye on some pretty low acceptance schools like NYU and USC and having a C on my transcript isn’t exactly ideal. Am I completely screwed? is there anything I can do to show colleges that I am still a well rounded student and just had one bad semester?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One C during sophomore year isn’t going to be the thing that keeps you out of USC or NYU. Just keep your grades up (as you have been doing). Also, are you saying you got a C first semester? Colleges only care about your final average for the year, not what you got during one semester.

Yeah I got a C first semester but second semester I got an A- and I was hoping that it would show improvement and it would be better because I was able to get a higher grade the second semester.

The only grade that matters is your final grade. The C should not show on your transcript at all. That’s just on your report card unless your school does things very oddly.
