Hi, I go to a decent public school and ranked at 3rd out of approximately 200 students.
I have total of 2 B's on my transcript (both of which are B+'s) and the rest A's.
I've taken the most vigorous course load available.
My SAT scores are 2250.

This year, I've been slacking off a little, and for AP Chem, I got C- for the first marking period.

I'm aiming at top liberal arts colleges, and top 20 schools in the U.S.

I'm considering dropping out of the class if it will influence me greatly.

Suppose I get an A for the second marking period. Would it still hurt my chances at
top schools?

I am assuming ur school does - and + grades. So, you should definitely work for an A second semester. I don't think dropping the class is a good idea unless u might get another C? It's always to good to show improvement and get an 5 on the AP Chem (700+ if not 800) on chem SAT II. Do w/e it takes to show the colleges that it was a mess up and you regret and did something to remediate that. Good luck!, glad you are concerned!

i got all A's during my HS career but a C in freshman physics honor class! i think it doesn't matter .

AP Chem is rough. I wouldn't drop it because then it shows college admissions that you didn't give up and you worked hard.

Don't drop and aim for the A. AP Chem is one of the few classes in which a B is considered pretty good, if you stick with it and try your best.

It's not so much about the GPA as it is about the course load. Just hang in there and do better next time. =]
