<p>that was my first semester of my first year at a community college...right now I am in my second semster...I am applying to almost all of the UCs in electrical or mechanical engineering. I studied my ass off...the professor was as well.....10 points off for not putting in units...didn't cover 5 chapters...damn...the thing is that we only have one physics professor at our school and I didn't know much about community college...next one I am taking it at a different college. Just extremely disappointed</p>

<p>I don't think a college will be too concerned with one C as it may be an aberration...but what concerns me is how quick you are to blame the teacher. Physics is a challenging class, especially calc-based, perhaps you weren't ready for the class. True, there are PIA teachers, but hardly any of them are the sole reason a student gets a C.</p>

<p>If so, I can relate. I'm a freshman taking two sciences. Bio and chem.</p>
<p>Bio is hard, I managed to get a B-. But unlike you, I don't have straight As aside from one subject. My overall is a 3.46.</p>
<p>I'm guessing these science courses are weedout courses, thats why they grade harshly.</p>

<p>exilio: believe me if it's a challenging class and do bad I don't but this is entirely the teacher's fault...check out ratemyprofessor.com and Irvine Valley College and Oldewurtel...another thing this teacher was suposed to cover 18 chapters but only covered like 7...how the hell am I supposed to go to physics II without the knowledge from the remaining chapters? I am not the only one in this boat...I know students who were in his class who studied their ass off to get Cs and Ds...this guy should not be teaching physics.</p>

<p>I understand and I can sympathize...I had a crap philosophy prof. last summer..the guy was disgustingly bad...but you have to deal with it. The issue I see with some students is that they feel because the prof sucks that grants them an excuse to do poorly so they put forth less effort.</p>
<p>Now none of us know your situation...so we can't really know. But I just want to give you some friendly advice that when a teacher sucks that bad, you have to put forth monumental amounts of effort, and sometimes your reward is only a B, but youw ill agree that is better than a C.</p>
<p>I may be wrong, but I think if you honestly considered your performance in the class, I bet you think you could have pulled off a B. You are a smart guy that just got bummed by having a bad teacher. I feel your pain.</p>
<p>fei just said he studied extremely hard. Why would he lie? I believe him. Sometimes u get a teacher like that. Life is unfair i know. However i find it that it balances out. U might get a really good teacher in the future.</p>
<p>fei, i don't know if I already mentioned this to you before. I believe I read that are applying to EECS at Cal. You now also mentioned that your GPA is 3.53. However, the average GPA of EECS at Cal is 3.91 (according to the EECS website). Is there an academic renewal option at your college? If there is, you should really consider that option so that you can repeat that course somewhere else and increase your GPA. </p>
<p>Also, at Diablo Valley College (DVC), there are many applicants to Cal for the EECS major who majority of them have 4.0's. I am just mentioning this just to tell you who you are possible competiting with. I am not discouraging you in any way. If you can increase your GPA from a 3.53 to alteast a 3.85, I believe you stand a chance. Hope that helps!</p>
<p>I also forgot to mention that I have this friend of mine who was seriously told by his counselor not to apply to EECS because of his 3.59 GPA. He did have a lot of EC's so I guess that can really make it or break it depending on the competition. However, his counselor advised him to do the Transfer Admission Agreement (TAA) which gurantees him admission to any major at Davis if he completes his lower division by the time he transfers and upholds a 3.5. That might also be a option if it is availabe to you!</p>

<p>fei, chill out man...he was citing statistics to you and then offering some anecdotal evidence. The fact of the matter is you're quite immature to be blaming your C completely on the professor. A school would rather have you admit that you didn't do your best in the class than hear excuses about a bad teacher.</p>
<p>If you work hard you might have a chance but as others have said EECS at Cal is very competative. He was offering his opinion, have the maturity to respond graciously even when the response is not what you want to hear.</p>
<p>well fei, if you have an attitude like that, I doubt if Cal, or any other UC is actually what you want. A 3.75 is a good GPA.....but look what you have, A 3.53 GPA. If you want to 'BLAME' your teacher for your sorry C, what do you plan to do once you transfer. Are you going to blame each and every one of your professors once you get out of your JC? They won't give a rats #@# . You might just want to admit it that maybe engineering is probably not for you since you got a C in physics.</p>
<p>On the other hand, I have heard that Diablo Valley College has probably the highest transfer rate to Cal. I don't know if that makes a difference, but it sure boasts my confidence to transfer to Cal with a 3.71 GPA and with lots of EC's.</p>
