One last early notification question!!

Should S have first QUARTER grades sent (which would be right now), or first SEMESTER grades (which would be late January)?

Thanks TSocash!

MADad,

If those grades are available, we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing them… ESPECIALLY if they reinforce your son’s good GPA, upward trend in grades, good grades in upper level courses, etc.

At the end of January or early in February every school is required to send the Mid Year Report, but if scores are available before then and the Guidance Counselor doesn’t mind mailing them - send them our way!

Most Guidance Counselors are VERY busy this time of year, so unless the GC willingly offers to send another item to another school, you could be met with some resistance. No school is required to send senior year scores until the Mid Year Report.

Tyler

In the My ROC account, should it say early notification if the student has applied early notification? My child’s says “regular decision.” Is that a problem?
Thanks!

Good question, and I can completely understand how this can be confusing…

If you selected the “EN” check box on the UR Supplement…

and

If you submit ALL application materials by December 1st…

…then you are DEFINITELY an early notification applicant.

All EN applicants are technically Regular Decision applicants (you are just submitting your regular decision application earlier), which is why your MyRoc still calls you “Reg Decision”. The only programming options under this section of your MyRoc are “Regular Decision” and “Early Decision”. Unless another applicant out there can say otherwise?..

If you log into your MyRoc account before December 1st, you checked the EN check box on the Supplement, and you see that your application is complete and ready to be reviewed… then rest assured, you are EN.

Please feel free to call if you are concerned! We have two counselors on the phones all day long from December - March, and we are willing to help you out.

Tyler,

My daughter’s ROC homepage lists her Application Type as Early Notification. :)

ahhhh, then I would definitely recommend motherofperl to call us!

UR Admissions: 585-275-3221
or toll free: 888-822-2256

We are open from 8:30am-5pm EST M-F

Thanks for the heads up intouch!!!

intouch1520, did your daughter apply through the common ap or through Univ of Rochester directly?

My son applied through the common ap so the common app form only has ED or RD. However, the supplement had a place to click for “Early Notification”, which he did.

His Roc account also says Reg Decision so now I am curious as well how does that Early notification button get switched on the ROC page?

Lakemom, my daughter applied using Common App also. On the Common App she selected Regular decision. When she filled out the CA supplement she checked off EN. If I recall correctly, If you select “apply now” on the MyROC login there was a Part 1 to fill out where she also checked off she was applying EN. I’m thinking that may be how she got the “Early Notification” status displayed on her ROC page. But I could be wrong…

So she did the CA application and supplement but also did another application form from the my ROC screen. When she did the my ROC screen page, did she do it because she not sure she was going to use the CA? I don’t believe you need to do both?

No, she was always intending to apply using CA. But when we went to the myROC page I’m pretty sure it looked like the first step was to fill out the “page 1” before filling out the common app. And there was a box to check off EN. I thought it odd that the CA did not have an EN option That’s all I remember.

Maybe Tyler can weigh in.

This is the first year that Univ of Roch is using Early Notification so maybe that is why it isn’t on the regular ap. It is a bit confusing as I didn’t even realize it was an option for my son to consider until I read about it here.

fwiw, S applied with CA and CA supplement only. Checked EN on supplement and that’s what shows on his MyRoc page. He didn’t fill out anything on the MyRoc site. Do call the Admissions office; they are very helpful and nice.

Thanks Mutti2012. I will then.

Tyler,

I had my D’s best ACT score directly sent to UR. She has two SAT takings and two ACT takings as well as two different SAT II’s. Sending all of these could be expensive so as of now I haven’t. She listed all of the scores for all of these tests in that spot on the Commonapp. Question is - she and I are debating the merits of just sending the one ACT which actually is reflective of all her tests as a whole - should that be sufficient or do we need to officially have them all sent if they are mentioned in the commonapp? She will be applying EN tomorrow.

The Common Application does not have the “EN” option because “EN” is a U of R-specific admissions program. All EN applicants should have selected “Regular Decision” on the Common Application, and checked the “EN” box on the University of Rochester Supplement. (Only the Supplements can ask school-specific questions and offer school-specific programs).

If your Supplement has not been received and associated to your file, we will not know that you are applying as “Early Notification”. Once your Supplement and all other application materials have been received (before December 2nd), and you did in fact check the EN box, you should be an EN applicant. If your MyRoc still says “Regular Decision”, it’s probably a coding issue. As Mutti suggested, just give us a call and we’ll take care of the problem right away!

The Part 1 of the University of Rochester application also has an “EN” box, but I believe only the Supplement’s EN box matters when capturing our EN applicants.

maidenMom,

The University of Rochester only looks at your best composite score for either the SAT or ACT. (We do not have a preference between these two standardized tests).

If you are saying that your daughter’s best score is on one ACT exam, then there is no need to send the other ACT exam to us. However, if she did better on even one section of the other ACT exam, then you should send both tests to us because we merge your best sub scores together to create a composite “superscore”.

If you are confident that the composite superscore of the ACT is higher than the composite superscore of the SAT, then you don’t need to send the SAT’s at all. (There is a conversion for these two tests.)

We will not accept self-reported scores on the Common Application as “official scores”, but we we still look at them if you provide them.

If your SAT II’s, SAT’s, or ACT’s are located on your daughter’s official high school transcript (sent in by her Guidance Counselor directly to the U of R), we can consider those scores as official. Sometimes a phone call to our office is required to let us know that test scores are in fact located on the official high school transcript.

I hope that helps!

Tyler

Hi Tyler,

Sorry, I have one other thing about test scores. My daughter submitted her ACT score. She also submitted her Bio SAT II score because she feels it strengthens her application and is in the field she is interested in studying. On her ROC page there is no little green checkmark next to “2 SAT II Subject Tests”. Is that because she only ‘officially’ submit one not two? Will it still be considered? She did take SAT II in English. I’m not sure why she didn’t submit that one. Teenagers!

Thank you.

Thanks Tyler! I did just check my son’s and it does say Early Notification now so not sure what changed it over.

intouch,

I would recommend giving us a call. We can open up her file and tell you if it’s here or not. (I’m not sure about the check mark next to SAT II’s, does anyone else on this forum have a check mark next to that item?)

My son does, we ordered them to go the same time the SAT 1 was sent but he sent 2 of them.
