One more question: how do you become an admissions adviser?

Hello again.
JHU thread has been an inspiring one because current students/college reps from the school actively responded to many of the questions asked here.
(I am not going to single out any one but we all know who they are.)

I know this is way in advance, but I was wondering how to get involved in the admissions department once there - fingers crossed!
Plus is it a paid job or a volunteer work?

Great question. Well just to clarify, the only current student who works in the Admissions Office is "laxfan04" and her's is a paid position. During the start of each semester their is a job fair where student's can apply to work for pretty much every department and office at Hopkins. The other students who comment on CC do so on their own.

As far as those students involved in Hopkins Interactive (the bloggers and ones who comment on the boards), well they are volunteers and part of a specific Admissions student group known as Advisory Board. Their is an application and interview process for this group, and though it is a big commitment, it is also quite a fun group.

Finally, in addition to all that there are a number of ways to volunteer with the Admissions Office - from tour guides, overnight hosts, online chatters, to even student interviewers as upperclassmen. These are all volunteer positions.

Enrolling students over the summer will get a detailed mailing about all the ways to volunteer with Admissions. Also, during the first week of classes there is a huge Student Activities Fair where Admissions has a table discussing all the volunteer opportunities.

Ditto to what Daniel said. I volunteer with admissions for the online chats and the open houses, but whatever I post here is unofficial and on my own time (read: whenever I have work and don't feel like doing it :) )

Just to add on about the Student Activities Commission (SAC) Fair, it's held during the first week of classes and it's how you can get involved in pretty much any activity on campus (and even some off campus volunteer activities). Almost all the student groups have a booth set up with information about what they do and you can sign up to get on their email lists. The SAC fair is held alongside the Job Fair, where, like Daniel said, you can get information about and apply for jobs all over Hopkins (including on the Homewood campus, as well as at the Med school and Eastern campus)

you also get all this cool free stuff to take back to your room. ;)
