So I’m in junior year in high school at a school which offers the International Baccalaureate at graduation, but I’m almost definitely going to move back to the US at the end of this year and I am unlikely to go to a school which offers that diploma. If I graduate this year I receive the high school diploma, which is the equivalent of the diploma you get graduating an American high school. However, since I had to apply to schools before I took my 2nd SAT, the only school I could get into was Bentley University with my 1350 SAT score, although I took it again after I got accepted and got a 1450. I want to major in finance, so should I do one more year of American high school or go to Bentley and try to transfer to a better school later? (not looking to graduate from Bentley)
Don’t go to a college planning to transfer. That is pretty much a guarantee of misery. Go to a college where you would be happy to stay for all four years.
If you could finish an IB that would be fine. You also could just take a gap year and apply to a whole new list. You needn’t feel that it is necessary to attend high school in the US for one year. In fact, if you have a diploma most high schools here won’t let you enroll anyway.
There are advantages to just graduating now even if you decide on a gap year instead of going to Bently. For one, your secondary school transcript will be completed at one school and you won’t be having to get that translated, evaluated, etc. along with the US transcript from your extra senior year.
I would go to one more year of American HS. It will give you an opportunity to transition back to US life an take more classes that will prepare you for college.
