One Question About Admissions and Breadth Courses

If I apply to any of the UC's and have my 60 units completed. Will I get turned down from schools if I only finish 4 out of 7 of my breadth requirements or finish 5 out of 7 breadth requirements. Will schools prefer people with more of their breadth requirements to be finished instead though?

To be competitive for admission, it’s more important for you to finish your major prerequisites. Some departments/majors may require you to have breadth done to be eligible for admission.

Also, isn’t IGETC (if that’s what you’re doing) all or nothing?

My intent is not do IGETC, I prefer to follow the regular transfer agreements of each and every school which was set up via the ASSIST.ORG website.

wait, i’m confused. are breadth courses the same as pre reqs for your major?

@uchappytrain, breadth refers to general education requirements (English, math, social studies, sciences, etc.) which are different from your major prereqs.

Oh, okay. I’ve done all of those then :P

Doesn’t Berkeley require breadth courses to be completed? And if yes, is that ok that you didn’t finish all the pre reqs for your major?

@pepe411, prereqs are ALWAYS more important than breadth. Ideally, you should complete both; but if you are not able to complete both, then prereqs should come before breadth (straight from the mouth of a UCLA admission rep at the UC Counselor Conference, September 2011).
