The admissions timeline has been updated for applications for the FSU class of 2013 (ie those applying in 2008-2009 for admission summer/fall of 2009.)

Complete* Application Received By: Decision Available On:
October 15, 2008 ........................ December 3, 2008
January 21, 2009 ........................ March 18, 2009

There are only two dates now, an early date and a rather late date. It will be so important to get that application completed by October 15. And there are so many students and parents who do not have CC to tip them off, and who may have GC's who will have no idea the implications of not having the application completed by October 15.

This is interesting.

Thanks for the info. This is what I had for last year. I was waiting for the new dates:

Received By: October 10, 2007 - Decision Mailed By: November 28, 2007
Received By: January 2, 2008 - Decision Mailed By: February 20, 2008

PS The SAT writing will be considered starting this year as referenced here:
Florida students applying to the University should present at least an "A-/B+" average in all academic subjects (additional weight is assigned to Honors, Dual Enrollment, AICE, AP, and IB coursework) and test scores of at least 24 (composite) on the ACT or 1620 on the SAT. The profile for non-Florida applicants is higher.
Note the 1620 suggested minumum.

Here are the absolute minimums required to be considered:
Writing · 21 on the ACT English or 500 on the SAT writing;
Math · 21 on the ACT math or 500 on the SAT math; and
Reading · 22 on the ACT reading or 500 on the SAT critical reading.
up from these figures last year:

Florida students applying to the University should present at least a "B+" average in all academic subjects (additional weight is assigned to Honors, Dual Enrollment, AICE, AP, and IB coursework) and test scores of at least 24 (composite) on the ACT or 1100 (critical reading plus math) on the SAT. The profile for non-Florida applicants is higher.

Writing • 19 on the ACT English or 480 on the SAT critical reading;
Math • 21 on the ACT math or 470 on the SAT math; and
Reading • 19 on the ACT reading or 440 on the SAT critical reading.

Actually, they were using the "new" minimum score requirements last year. The minimums posted on the webpage for last year are those you have quoted, but if you visited personally you were told and given a handout that listed the higher scores that now appear on the admissions webpage. And if you got a deferrment last year, you were given a link to the updated ACT/SAT requirements. I was never sure why they didn't post the info, but there were using it last year. They have finally updated their site.

Thanks. We plan on visiting FSU next Tuesday.

Hope you and your prospective student have a great visit to FSU!

Unfortunately, July & Aug are the warmest months in Tally so drink plenty of water. (Today the temp in Tally is 94 with a heat index of 101.) You will most likely experience hot & steamy days with high humidity - perhaps even a thundershower, (which is very common for Florida during this part of the year.) Thank goodness for air-conditioning!

But, don't fret over the summer heat, the flip side is Dec-Feb the avg highs are in the 60's with avg lows in the mid 40's! There will be plenty of winter days that students will be getting sun on Landis Green while their family up north is still clearing off the driveway with the snow-blower!

There's no way that if I was an '09 graduate that I would be accepted with the new criteria. Not a single chance. That is an INSANE leap in SAT scores.

The Fall enrolled SAT average went from 1218 to 1265 from 2007 to 2008. Quite a jump. Many things will be affected - admission to Honors, university scholarships, admission to Summer semester...

Good luck to all applicants!

have a great visit. our visit last summer was terrific. try to take the earliest tour they offer. i say this for two reasons. when we did it, it was a bit cooler out when we walked the campus at 9am vs. later in the day. second and more importantly we were the only family on the tour, so we had the tour guide all to ourselves which was awesome. being from oos, we had lots of questions. our tour guide was so helpful. then when we returned to the visitor center, we had a private presentation (we were the only family that early in the day) with an admissions rep. this was great for our son. he asked lots of questions and he got the admission rep's email which he used throughout the admissions process. I think by establishing contact with an actual member of the admissions team, really helped his chances of getting in.

good luck, have fun and write a review upoin your return.

Hey I'm a Senior "09" living in Florida, who REALLY wants to attend FSU. I plan on submitting my application at least by August 15th if things go well. With the recent stats will I end up getting deferred? I have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and I don't know my weighted or class rank (should be in Top 50) due to my school i.e. Tampa Catholic High School. I'm taking two Dual Enrollment Core Courses English and History with two D/E electives Political Science, and Introduction to Film. I choked up on the SAT 1st trial 800 2nd trial 850 and did better on the ACT with a 17 (didn't study due to taking SAT a week before June 7--ACT June 14). I'm currently am studying for the upcoming ACT in September aiming between a 22-26 composite score. I also have many EC's such as Track & Field, Homeroom Representative, Student Ambassador, KLU Club which benefits pediatric cancer patients, Reptile Club, and SHAPE mentoring freshman. Also I plan on completing an extensive resume listing my service hour's, achievements, and EC's. Also I'm an African-American who is very involved within mentoring inner-city youth and my suburban community. If I get deferred should I attend a community college then transfer or should I attend a smaller university and Transfer? Also I heard about FSU's CARE program which helps minorities gain acceptance should I apply for that as well I 'am well over their requirements GPA wise and hopefully the ACT score will come into fruition.

I love FSU (top choice) and what it has to offer (Campus Feel, Academics, Popularity, College Town with TCC, and FAMU)
I'm also looking at similar or smaller State Universities UNF, UCF, FAU, USF, and UWF if FSU defers me =(
Should I apply out of state? I really like Auburn & BAMA!
GO NOLES!!

You should definitely look into the CARE program. If you qualify, they will provide a lot of extra support to help you succeed at FSU. Your current stats don't seem strong enough for regular admission. Attending community college for your AA with a strong GPA is normally a good way to gain transfer admission. It's great that you are starting early so you have your best shot at the universities you are considering.

Also consider an instructor-led preparation course for the SAT/ACT.

I would also suggest contacting CARE and asking for any advice to help you prepare and qualify for entry. If you are admitted to CARE, that would give you a superior advantage in attending/graduating from FSU and even later graduate studies.

The CARE website is here: fsu.edu | Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement

Good luck - start now. :)

Prep courses are great for SAT/ACT. My daughter took one (she tends to have anxiety over timed testing situations). The course really helped her to feel more confident and relaxed with the whole testing situation. Plus, she did work through some test prep books in order to get ready.

Definately go for CARE. The program is great! It helps students develop skills which will equip them to succeed in college and in life in general!

Best of Luck! :)

Thank You very much everyone for all of the information. I used an online SAT prep service called PrepMe which costs $400 dollars and obviously didn't work out. I'm going to try 1-on-1 ACT prep. Also I plan on contacting and signing up for the CARE program.

GO 'NOLES!!!
